Description of the walk

The starting point is in front of the gate to the grounds of Westhove Castle: 146, Rue Jean Jaurès. Parking is available nearby (50 m).

(S/E) With your back to the entrance gate of the Château de Westhove park, walk up Rue Jules Guesde (towards Helfaut) and cross the railway line. At the Fork in the road, turn left onto Rue Jules Guesde and continue uphill until you reach No. 1, Rue du Fort Mahon, which is on the left after the ‘no left turn’ sign.

(1) Turn left. At the end of this street, turn left and then immediately right, crossing Rue George Sand with care to join Rue de l’Arbre Hardi. Next, cross the D77 with care. Turn left onto the path, then join theGRP®, marked in yellow and red.

(2) Turn right and, at the junction, turn right again to reach a dead end leading to the junction with Rue Jacques Brel.

(3) Turn right. As you leave Rietz de l’Église, go straight on until you reach the ‘Give Way’ sign. Pass the street and the path on your left that lead down to the D447 (Rue de Saint-Omer).

(4) Cross carefully and take Rue des Bruyères opposite. After the pond, turn right and continue to the wooden archway by the nature reserve.

(5) After this, turn left. Then turn left again to cross a footbridge. Turn immediately right, then right again before the next footbridge. Finally, cross the last footbridge on the right and take the dirt track opposite that leads downhill.

(6) Pass under the D77 bridge and continue straight on to No. 1, Rue du Fort Mahon.

(1) Head downhill to the left and retrace your steps in the opposite direction to return to the starting point (S/E).

A lovely walk that takes you through Blendecques, the countryside, a wood and finally a series of small ponds that give this little corner of Pas-de-Calais a Finnish feel. I took my time and completed it in 1 hour 45 minutes in thick fog, which added to the atmosphere. A short, unpretentious but very pleasant walk, which was just what I was looking for that day.
