Park on Rue des Recques in Helfaut, near the water tower.
(S/E) With your back to the water tower, turn left towards a wooden gate. This is where the walk begins. Don’t worry – the path is signposted with red arrows throughout the walk. But be careful: at one point on the walk you’ll come across yellow signposts, which, in my opinion, are temporary.
(1) About 300 metres past the gates, turn left near a small building called Saint-Hubert. Continue along this path to Mont d’Helfaut, then head back down.
(2) Turn right onto Rue de Blendecques, and carry on for about 300 m until you reach a dirt track leading off opposite, where you’ll find aGRP®® signpost. Take this track, go round the huge La Coupole bunker – now converted into a museum – then head uphill for a lovely view.
(3) Take care at this point: there are several paths to the right and left. Take thesecond on the right, following the direction indicated by theGRP®® signpost.
(4) Turn right again, taking care as the signposting isn’t very visible here. Continue along this path, keeping the ponds on your left.
(1) Continue to the left to reach the water tower car park (S/E).
