Description of the walk

The starting point is at the following address: 2, Rue de la Pierre, near the church in Racquinghem. Parking is available.

(S/E) From the starting point, with the church opposite, turn left onto Rue de la Pierre. Before the driving school, turn right and continue straight ahead to Rue de Roquetoire.

(1) Turn left. Ignore the streets on the left and right and go down Rue de Roquetoire until you reach the junction with the D943.

(2) Cross it carefully and continue straight ahead on a dirt road. This path will make two 90° turns, first to the right, then to the left, before crossing the Route de Wardrecques.

(3) Cross and continue straight ahead until you reach the Canal de Neufossé. Turn left along the canal. At the crossroads, turn right then left. At the fork, turn left to join Rue de Cassel. Turn left, cross the Contre-Fossé on the left bank of the canal, and join Rue du Choquel.

(4) Turn left to rejoin Sentier Hugo, a grassy path between numbers 20 and 18 on Rue du Choquel.

(5) Turn right, then go straight ahead at the crossroads and turn right at the next one. At the end, turn left. When you reach the tarmac, turn left and continue until you reach the D943.

(6) Cross it carefully and head left to the roundabout, then turn right. Continue to the chapel.

(7) In front of it, turn right onto the grassy path to join Rue de Roquetoire, at number 122.

(8) Turn left and, at the stop sign, turn right. Then enter the car park and go to the end to reach the moorland. Enter, then go straight ahead until you reach a fence. There, turn left and, at the next intersection, turn left. Go up the hill to reach Rue de Roquetoire.

(1) Cross it to return to the starting point (S/E) by following the same route as on the way there.

Hike completed in February.
Confusion in the signage led us to walk an extra 2 km: At point 1, the description does not make it very clear that you have to follow the road to the left at the three-way junction. In fact, there is a signpost in the middle of the three-way junction for the Hugo trail with no directional indication and a second sign on the same post (La Vallée, which turns right). Of course, we followed this direction for 1 km, as the route was still marked in yellow and we felt confident, until we realised that we still hadn't crossed the main road So we turned back in the mud to find the right route. We passed through a series of fields to reach the Neufossé canal. There, the route, in principle, takes us along a path with no view of the canal and of no interest whatsoever. We preferred to climb the embankment to walk along the towpath. A little more interesting, in terms of the landscape.
There were many sections of tarmac road.
The end of the route takes us to the Landes nature reserve. What can we say? Given the enthusiastic description on the Tourist Office website, we were expecting much better. How disappointing! A fence encloses what remains.
We don't really recommend this hike.
