Departure from Place de Sainte-Marie-Cappel. Church of Our Lady of the Assumption.
(S/E) Take the Oxelaëre road, which starts to the left of the bakery. Continue straight ahead, crossing two roads until the road bends to the right, leaving a path that branches off to the left. Along this road, there is a beautiful view of Mont Cassel on your right.
(1) Turn right towards Cassel. Continue straight ahead; the tarmac road narrows. At Hamer Houck (large house), look at the beautiful traditional farmhouse on your left.
(2) At the crossroads (chapel on the left), cross the road and continue straight ahead towards Cassel on theGRP® Monts de Flandres route. There is a very pretty house halfway up the slope along the route. At this point, remember to turn around to admire the view over the plain.
(3) At the foot of the Schoebeque castle, turn left onto Chemin Bosquillon, which descends for a few metres. At the first junction, turn right onto Rue du Maréchal Foch (note: narrow pavement) and turn left towards Place de Cassel. Walk up this square and continue along the main road (Rue Constant Moeneclaey).
(4) Take Rue de l'Infirmerie, which starts with a narrow passage with a few steps, then continue straight on along Petit Chemin de la Gare on a section ofthe GR®128. The view over the plain is exceptional, but don't forget to turn around and enjoy the lovely view of Cassel. At the three-way junction, keep right.
(5) Take the road that begins on your left after the three-way junction. At the crossroads, turn left towards Oxelaëre centre. At the next crossroads, go straight ahead.
(6) At the corner of No. 2, turn left at an acute angle towards the church. Go around the church on the right to pass in front of its entrance. Then turn right to immediately reach a crossroads.
(7) Then turn left onto Rue de Strap. At the next intersection, keep left and follow Rue du Noisetier.
(8) Turn left onto Rue d'Aire (an old Roman road with a lovely view of the village). Join the Saint-Omer road coming from the village centre and continue straight ahead for about 50 metres.
(9) At the fork, turn right onto Route d'Oxelaëre. Please note that this road is quite busy. Keep to the left, on the track on the hard shoulder.
(2) Continue straight ahead, taking theGRP® Monts de Flandres again. At thesecond intersection, turn right onto Route d'Hazebrouck. Please note: when crossing the road, visibility is limited on the bend. Continue straight ahead and cross the hamlet of Coq de Paille.
(10) At a three-way junction, follow the path on the left, still on the GRP®. Then take thefirst path on the right, towards Sainte-Marie-Cappel.
(11) At a three-way junction before the first houses, follow a grassy path on the left (GRP®). After a right-left turn, continue on a road and you will soon reach a three-way junction.
(12) Then turn left and leave theGRP®. Join the D53 and follow it to the left for about 50 metres (chapel; lovely view of Cassel).
(13) Turn right at an acute angle onto Route de Borre, which runs alongside the village.
At the next junction with the Notre-Dame de Grâce chapel on the right, turn right to return to the starting point (S/E).
