From Belley, head towards Saint-Germain-des-Paroisses (CD 41) and, before climbing into the first hills of the Jura, turn left onto the CD 10d towards Arbignieu, stopping at the hamlet of Thoys.
Coming from the south along the Rhône, after Peyrieu, leave the CD 10 at the Forêt de Rothonne, turning left towards Peysieu, then immediately (after 300 metres) turn right onto the CD 10d, passing by the outskirts of Arbignieu to reach the hamlet of Thoys.
From Glandieu and Prémezel, go via Peysieu and join the route described above.
In Thoys, there are only three parking spaces near the wash house. If these are full, head back south to the junction with the Chemin du Moulin, where there are several parking options.
(S/E) From the centre of the hamlet (lavoir), take the road south for 400 m and, just after crossing the Ruisseau d’Armaille, turn right onto the Chemin du Moulin, until you reach the foot of the hill (old mill).
(1) Take the path opposite which climbs to the left and, at the next junction, turn right to return to the Ruisseau d’Armaille.
Do not cross it, but follow its right bank westwards, alongside a fence. The path then climbs to the left and joins a track that ascends a long valley floor at the foot of small cliffs, at Le Balai. At the top of the valley, the path descends slightly and continues south-west, gradually emerging from the forest and reaching a major junction marked ‘Bagne’.
(2) Turn right and head northwards until you reach another major junction. Take the second path on the left, which quickly joins the Roche Percée path; follow it to the left and back.
(3) From the Corne Bœuf pass, return to the main path and follow it northwards. It descends towards an often-submerged marsh, which it runs alongside until its northern end, where you can admire the marsh stretching out before you.
(4) Return to the main path heading north, which crosses a threshold and descends to a junction where the path on the right leads down to the ford over the Ruisseau d’Armaille, now spanned by a rebuilt footbridge.
(5) Cross the stream and continue straight ahead to reach a building on the shore of Lac d’Armaille.
(6) Take the path northwards again, which crosses a threshold before reaching the CD 41 (Route de Saint-Germain-des-Paroisses).
(7) Turn right along the road and, after 100 m, take the path on the right which cuts across the bend in the road and joins it. Follow it to the right and, just after a bend, leave it again to take the path which cuts across the bend in the road and descends to a junction shortly before rejoining the road.
(8) Turn right onto the forest track heading south, which climbs slightly to a step, then veers left (eastwards) and then southwards again, descending at a steady gradient through the forest to the foot of the hillside, where the track turns left and joins the CD 10d at the Mutin junction.
(9) Turn right (south) to return to the hamlet of Thoys (S/E).
