At the southern exit of Belley on the D992, turn left onto a dead-end road that leads to the Rothonne Forest car park. There is a picnic area and a water point.
(S/E) Read the sign at the start of the trails and continue straight ahead on the path. Games and sports activities are dotted along the first kilometre. Leave the return path on your left. Follow the Chevreuil trail.
(1) After taking part in the activities, you will find yourself on a shaded path that slopes gently downwards. Leave the path that leads back to the road on your right at the hairpin bend. Similarly, a little further on, leave the Renard trail that branches off to the left. You will arrive at the lowest point, ten metres from the D992.
(2) The climb begins, gently sloping for several kilometres through the forest. Always stay on the main, well-marked trail. On a descent, do not go straight towards the road but turn left to climb back up. A little further on, ignore a path on the left that considerably shortens the route. You will arrive at the highest point of the walk.
(3) A gap in the trees allows you to see the Dent du Chat and the Épine massif in the distance. Begin the descent by following a fence. At the bottom, turn left. Continue, ignoring a path that branches off to the left. You will arrive at a crossroads with several paths.
(4) Change direction and turn right onto the return path, which is shared with the Renard and Écureuil trails. Follow the main trail back to the car park (S/E).
