Description of the walk

Park in the small car park at the exit of Les Escoyères (caution: narrow, difficult road with numerous hairpin bends).

(S/E) Head towards the hamlet, which you cross to join theGR® to the east. Continue along this path for 3km, following the power line.

(1) At the first junction (signpost), leave theGR® and turn left towards Villargaudin/Le Queyron.

(2) Take the path on the left towards Villargaudin, which you quickly leave to turn left (cairn) onto a fairly steep path that climbs to join the one coming from the hamlet.

(3) Take this path to the left towards Le Queyron. Follow the red and yellow markings ofthe GR® de Pays.

(4) Turn left to reach the orientation table, then, back on the GRP®, continue to the left.

(5) At Le Queyron, continue along theGRP® towards Furfande, leaving the first Escoyères path on your left.

(6) At the second junction (1941m), head down to the left towards Les Escoyères.

(7) When you reach a wide path, cross it and take the path opposite which leads back to the hamlet and your car (S/E).

A lovely hike along the ridge with views of the Queyras, starting from Villargaudin; good slushy snow; a snowshoe hike in the sunshine; very enjoyable

Thank you for this lovely circular route. As for me, I set off from Villargaudin. The view is superb from this side of the Guil.

I’ve corrected the route up to Villargaudin. It’s on the left. You can indeed start from Villargaudin. The route is much easier and adds very little elevation gain.

The route on the map is accurate, but the distance is underestimated; this hike is two to three kilometres longer. I also think it’s more challenging, as there are numerous sections of scree that aren’t easy to navigate. On the way up towards Villargaudin, there’s some confusion because Villargaudin is signposted both to the left and to the right.
You can also start the walk from Villargaudin; access by car is easier, and you avoid the 21 hairpin bends of Les Escoyères on a narrow road.

A beautiful and varied route with a wealth of flora and swarms of butterflies. Please update the route description from point 2 onwards to reach the path situated a little further up; in fact, to go up, you need to head left rather than right once you’ve passed point 2. As we couldn’t find a cairn or a path, we had to improvise and make our way up the steep slope through the woods – a bit of a struggle – but we managed to find the path further up with the help of the GPS track. It would have been simpler, though also longer, to head to Villargaudin.

Well, think again – I’ve done it several times, even in snowshoes. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions.
