Description of the walk

(S) Take the wide track to the right of the lodge, where the sign points to the Col Fromage. Head south to the Riou Vert stream.

(1) Then head south-east. Follow the stream on its right bank until you reach a footbridge, which is the junction with a variant ofthe GR®58. Stay on the right bank of the stream (do not take the footbridge), climb up and cross the stream on the second footbridge. Continue through the Pra Paris and Vallon du Riou Vert mountain pastures before starting a series of easy hairpin bends that will take you back to theGR®5from the previous day. Turn right to reach Col Fromage.

(2) This pass is a major crossroads of trails. Take the second trail on the right, which is the ridge trail, marked in yellow. Do not take the direct trail on the ridge, but instead take the winding trail on the left. Reach the summit ridge and the observatory.

(3). Continue westwards. After a few switchbacks and a long descent, you will reach a switchback on the left, which marks the Crête de Riou Vert. At the next switchback, go straight on to the Jean Grossan viewpoint (beautiful view of Ceillac).

(4) Return to the hairpin bend and you will reach the Col de Bramousse.

(5) There, rejoin theGR®58and turn left to descend to Ceillac via a long series of tight hairpin bends. Continue to the cemetery, then turn 90° left, enter Ceillac, and descend the main street to arrive at the Baladins Lodge (E).

Lodge: Les Baladins, located on the plain southwest of the village, marked by a large carved wooden hiker.

Worth a visit

The observatory has been rebuilt and is a beautiful, highly visible building that was used for optical communication. It was one of the links that once allowed optical signals to travel between Briançon and Nice to inform the military authorities of foreign invasions.
(4) Jean Grossan viewpoint: an excellent viewpoint overlooking Ceillac, offering a magnificent view of the village.
Opposite Ceillac is the superb Font Sancte mountain, the highest peak in the Queyras.
