Description of the walk

Park in front of the town hall in Triembach-au-Val.

(S/E) Take Rue des Guerriers (the street that climbs parallel to the main road). At a cross, head up a fairly steep grassy path, marked with a Blue Saltire, towards Albé (ignore the Chemin du Sonnenbach on the left) and pass a drinking water reservoir.

(1) At the top of the path, after a fenced-in area with fir trees, turn right onto a path leading into the forest. At a clearing, the path turns left at a right angle and joins a cross-country path which you follow to the right.

(2) Cross a path and first turn right then left to continue on the Blue Saltire marked path towards Albé.

(3) On leaving the forest, before the first vineyards, turn right, off the marked trail, onto a steep uphill path. Continue along a mostly flat section, enter the vineyards and cross the Chemin du Patrimoine at the sign for “lieu-dit Galgenrein”.

(4) Head up to the left along a partially concrete path, then immediately turn right to climb to the summit of the Schrann (bench), offering a beautiful 360° view.

Continue downhill, follow the edge of the woods then head left towards the aerodrome.
Before reaching the road, turn right (Red Cross markings) then left to cross the end of the airfield runway and enter the forest. At two successive three-way junctions, head straight on (Red Triangle markings).

(5) At a clearing, by a cross (somewhat hidden by bushes), turn sharply right, off the marked path, onto a somewhat overgrown track. Several successive bends to the left follow.
After a fairly steep descent, you’ll reach the Bachmatten valley and continue along the gently sloping path, following a small stream.

(6) At the three-way junction before the first houses, continue left along a path winding through gardens. Return to the village and follow Rue des Prés to the right, then head towards the town hall (S/E).

Worth a visit

The summit of the Schrann offers a beautiful panoramic view:
- from the entrance to the Villé valley on the right, a view of the Hahnenberg above Châtenois, Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, Frankenbourg Castle and the Altenberg massif.
- to the left, from the keep of Ortenbourg Castle to the Belle Vue summit above Dambach-La-Ville, then the Ungersberg
- on the Albé side, the Champ du Feu massif stretching to the summit of Climont.

At (3), you can continue on to take a detour via the beautiful wine-growing village of Albé; several paths lead up towards La Schrann.

A pleasant walk with no real difficulties. Some lovely views. Due to the weather, the path was very muddy, with plenty of sections off the beaten track as they had been damaged by construction machinery

A fairly easy walk. There are a few fairly steep ascents and descents, but the paths are really quiet – no cars to worry about – which makes it very pleasant. We managed to pick up a few chestnuts along the way, and the view of the mountains and vineyards is magnificent. A lovely little 2½-hour walk.
