Route around Villé

This route is the one I use for a trail running event as part of my work. It’s a loop of just under 8 km that’s fairly straightforward if you run regularly.
The advantage of this route is that it can also be done as a family walk. Walking, it takes around 2–2½ hours. This walk will allow you to explore the forest surrounding Villé, which overlooks the villages of Saint-Martin and Maisonsgoutte.

Description of the walk

The route starts in front of the Villé Tourist Office.

(S/E) Take Rue René Kuder, which is directly opposite, then go behind the church onto Rue du Général Leclerc. You will arrive at Promenade du Klosterwald.
At the cemetery, turn right and you’ll reach the edge of the forest.

(1) As you enter the forest, take the path on the right which runs alongside a large meadow. This path is marked with a Yellow Ring.
You’ll come to a wide path where you keep to the right. Continue straight on towards Honcourt Castle, following the Blue Cross and Yellow Ring markings.

(2) When you reach the château, walk along the edge of the grounds on the left, continuing to follow the Blue Cross markings. You will turn right, skirting around the château grounds.
You will come to a small path (often damp) which will take you up to the heights of the village of Maisonsgoutte, where you will cross a concrete road.

(3) On this road, take the hairpin bend to your left and follow the Yellow Disc markings. The path will bend first left then right; continue to follow the Yellow Disc. (There is an optional small path that branches off at the bend, but it is somewhat hidden.) You will emerge onto a forest track.

(4) At the end of the path, turn right onto the forest road, following the Red Ring, Yellow Disc and Red Cross markings until you reach the junction at the Col du Banc du Forestier.

(5) From this junction at Sous le Banc du Forestier, continue straight on along the
until the next junction.

(6) Turn left at the junction, then immediately right onto a path leading downhill, marked with a Blue Triangle. Continue straight on, following this path until it joins the path you took on the way up. Follow it to the right.
Take the small path downhill again and retrace your steps back to the Tourist Office (S/E).

Once you leave Villé, the hike is well shaded, making it very pleasant when it's hot. It's suitable for an eleven-year-old child. The terrain is varied, and we were able to see three deer because it was so quiet. I recommend following the Visorando trail, as it's easier because the hike is marked with alternating signs. It's not always best to take the "most obvious path at the crossroads" to enjoy the well-designed route. Thank you for publishing this trail.

A lovely little outing; at point 6 we walked to the viewpoint (a round trip), which was well worth the detour and a lovely spot for a picnic
