A lovely little walk covering a variety of paths. A very pretty view awaits you from the Belle-Vue gazebo.

Description of the walk

Start in front of the Villé tourist office.

(S/E) With your back to the tourist office, take Rue René Kuder opposite. After the church, turn left into Rue du Général Leclerc. At the next junction, continue straight on along Promenade du Klosterwald. At the end, turn right onto Rue Bellevue and walk past the secondary school.

(1) At the edge of the forest, take the path on the right to enter it. Walk alongside a large fenced-off meadow and follow the Blue Ring and Yellow Ring markings. At the end of the meadow, you’ll start a lovely climb – short but quite steep – marked with a Blue Cross.

(2) You’ll reach a wide forest track and follow it straight on. You’ll pass the Fontaine du Diable and continue following the Yellow Ring and Blue Cross markings.

(3) At a fork, take the path on your right, marked with a Blue Triangle and Blue Cross, towards Château du Honcourt. At the end of the path, turn right and cross a stream.

(4) Immediately afterwards, turn left and walk alongside the stream on your left and the château grounds on your right. Follow the Blue Cross markings. After about 200 m, turn right (still following the Blue Cross markings). Further on, the path turns westwards.

(5) Take a left onto a tarmac road which quickly turns into a forest track. Take a hairpin bend to the right, then leave the track for a path on the left (marked with Red Disc and Yellow Disc signs). After about a hundred metres, at a junction in a bend, take a path that climbs up to the left. Continue uphill towards the south-east, following the Red Disc and Yellow Disc markings.

(6) At the crossroads, take the second path on the right (Yellow Disc, Red Saltire and Red Ring) towards Banc du Forestier. As you approach the pass, take a path on your right (somewhat hidden), marked with a Red Cross, which climbs up to the pass.

(7) Turn left onto the path running behind the shelter. After fifty metres, take the path on the left, marked with a Yellow Rectangle and Yellow Diamond, which leads through a clearing beneath a high-voltage power line. Follow the dual markings to the Belle-Vue kiosk. It’s all downhill from here. This path turns into a trail and takes you past the kiosk. Continue downhill.

(8) At the crossroads, take the first path branching off to your left at an acute angle (Yellow Rectangle and Yellow Diamond). Continue downhill, following these markings. You’ll emerge onto a small road and make the first turn left then right.

(1) You follow the route back in the opposite direction, passing in front of the secondary school and the nursery school, then behind the church, until you find yourself in front of the tourist office (S/E).

A very pleasant walk with frequent changes of scenery. Highly recommended in summer as 90% of the route is in the shade.

An easy route completed on 8 October 2021, though the signposts are sometimes poorly placed or not immediately visible. After the Fontaine du Diable, given the position of the signpost, we missed the Blue Triangle and Blue Cross marking the way to Honcourt Castle. We had a picnic at the Col du Banc du Forestier, a very pleasant spot.

The description, map and actual terrain match perfectly. This is a hike best done in very hot weather as it’s mainly through woodland, which was the case today, 29 July 2020.

A leisurely walk along easy paths (the walk takes less than two hours); there’s a lovely viewpoint at the gazebo.
It should be noted that Honcourt Castle is abandoned, which is a great shame.
Please note that the stream is a dry stream bed; it is located just before the castle. Do not confuse it with the Giessen stream.
