Berre-l'Étang walks

This nearly 9 km hike starting from the Berre-l'Étang cooperative offers a beautiful immersion in the heart of varied and peaceful natural landscapes. With a very low elevation gain of 7 m, this loop is accessible to everyone, young and old, regardless of your level of fitness. The route starts at the cooperative car park (cooperative roundabout) and quickly leads you to flat paths surrounded by plains and unspoilt natural areas. You can enjoy the vast expanses typical of the region, walking along the lake with its reflections changing throughout the day.

This is a long, easy circular route starting from Rognac and heading towards the small pass of Collet Redon, passing by a permanent spring, the Malaga waterfall (Rognac fountain) seen from below and then from the top of its cliffs, and the Fontaine de l'Oule fountain. After passing through the bottom of the valley and around the small pass of Redon, the route rejoins the GRP®2013 and then follows the cliffs of Rognac to the cross overlooking the town. Finally, a last detour to the remains of an ancient oppidum and the ruins of Castellas Castle before returning to the starting point. A magnificent and varied landscape throughout the route.

An easy hike starting from Vitrolles Hill and continuing across the plateau.

An easy circular starting from Rognac towards the Collet Redon hill, passing by the Malaga Waterfall (Fontaine de Rognac) and then the Fontaine de l'Oule on the way there. A short, peaceful family walk along wide paths, with a magnificent view of the lake, which is even more beautiful at sunset. To see a beautiful waterfall, plan your walk a few days after rain, as this is Provence.

A beautiful hike along the cliffs of Rognac: superb views of the town of Rognac with the Étang de Berre lagoon and the surrounding towns of Vitrolles, Berre and Velaux.

In the middle of a protected natural site, this easy hike allows you to discover the Canal du Rove, the Étang de Bolmon, part of the southern shore of the Étang de Berre, the beaches of Le Jaï and the Parc des 4 Vents. Through marshes and sand, observatories allow you to watch migratory birds and discover many aquatic animal species. Along the way, you will see fishermen's huts.

Loop starting from the Collets Rouges equestrian centre, Vitrolles, the radar, Rognac and back via Salvarenque. Walk on very wide, carriage-accessible paths, to be avoided on windy days (mistral). Views of the Étang de Berre and Marseille-Provence airport.

A gentle walk with little elevation gain, on wide, sunny tracks, among kermes oaks, pines and Provençal herbs. Views of the Étang de Berre lagoon and, at times, Montagne Sainte-Victoire.

A circular loop starting from Vallon du Saut and heading towards the valleys of Valtrède, Maximin and Fauconnière. There are a few technical sections and many geological curiosities to discover, such as Roche Percée, Fortin du Saut and rock faces, which are popular climbing sites. On the plateau, there are magnificent views of the Étangs de Berre and Bolmon lakes and, in the background, the Sainte Victoire mountain, the Luberon and the snow-capped Alps, depending on the season.

A very demanding hike with many sights to discover: the Grotte aux Chèvres, the Fortin du Saut, the Grotte de Debaussadou, the Baume du Figuier, the Puits de Barbe and the Font aux Pigeons. A pleasant hike south of Châteauneuf-les-Martigues. After a very strenuous start amid the splendid rock formations of the Vallon du Saut, the route alternates between pleasant trails at the bottom of the valley and tracks on the plateau with magnificent views of the Étang de Berre on one side and the Côte Bleue coastline on the other.

This hike offers beautiful views of the Étang de Berre and part of the Marseille harbour. In the distance, weather permitting, you can see Sainte-Victoire, Luberon, Mont Ventoux and the Alpilles. The only drawback is the proximity of the motorway at the start and end of the route.

During this very easy walk on flat ground alternating between tracks and small roads, you can admire beautiful drystone shelters and a bee wall. Drystone shelters are huts built from dry stones that served as temporary dwellings for farmers in Provence in the 19th century. The bee wall, or Apier, is an 18th-century dry stone wall, 60 metres long, with 56 niches (originally 200) where beekeepers used to shelter their straw hives from the mistral wind and bad weather.
