Description of the walk

If you are coming from the north, via Lançon-Provence: take the D113 departmental road (towards La Fare-lès-Olivier), continue for about 700m after the sign for the Col du Télégraphe Chappe. There is a small space at the side where you can park.

If you are coming from Le Dud, via La Fare-les-Olivier: take the D113, but do not attempt to cross the road as it is far too dangerous. Continue to Lançon, turn around at the first roundabout, then follow the instructions above.

(S/E) Go through the barrier and take the path that slopes slightly downwards. After 50 metres, you will come across an underground oil pipeline, marked by blue markers and yellow signs.
Turn left and follow the pipeline until you reach the edge of the plateau.

(1) You will see a large rock in front of you with some remains of dry stone walls: these are the ruins of the Grenier de Coudounèu farm. For more information, see the link below.

PLEASE NOTE: you can visit the site, but the farm is on a rocky outcrop with steep drops.

Leaving the farm and returning towards the oil pipeline, take a path on the left (marked with three blue circles next to three orange circles). Follow the path and you will see the Chappe telegraph on your left. Pass it and you will come to a crossroads.

(2) The aforementioned markings turn to the right. Instead, take the path on the left. Shortly afterwards, you will arrive at a crossroads with a viewpoint over the Étang de Berre. Turn left towards the Chappe Telegraph and walk to the small building (a link below will tell you more about the Chappe Telegraph).

Retrace your steps back to the crossroads.

(2) Take the path on the left. After 500 metres, you will come to a crossroads with a large bush in front of you, a path slightly to the left and another to the right at a right angle. Turn right (a few steps further on, there is a blue mark on the ground that is half faded). After about 100 metres, the path turns left and descends. After about 250 metres, you will come to a crossroads.

(3) Turn right and follow the path. You will eventually reach a wide path running alongside several properties. Follow this path to the right until you cross the oil pipeline (see the blue markers and yellow signs).

(4) Follow the oil pipeline and return to the starting point (S/E).

NB If you are heading north via Lançon-Provence, do not attempt to cross the D113 road as it is too dangerous. Continue to La Fare-lès-Olivier and turn around at the first roundabout.

A pleasant walk, completed in 1 hour and 5 minutes at a leisurely pace, including stops.
A quick note at the start: at the first blue marker, turn left.

The start is very nice. Plus, the weather was beautiful, which made it very pleasant. The end of the route is a little less exciting, but it was good to get some fresh air.

The first part is the most interesting. The circular route that you then take in the hills allows you to enjoy a pleasant walk and extend the trip a little.

A very pleasant start to the hike with beautiful views, but halfway through there are no more views and the end has to be done along the road, which spoils the hike.
In short, I recommend the first half, which is very beautiful, but after that it's better to retrace your steps.

A very pleasant walk with some lovely surprises. Unfortunately, however, right from the start, at the car park, we are greeted by a pile of rubbish of all kinds. Fortunately, this is quickly forgotten as we are treated to beautiful views of the surrounding area.

The red markings are very clearly indicated up to the GR junction on the plateau, but after that we got a little confused trying to find the Saint-Chamas canal. Luckily, the shepherd and his goats guided us safely! Many thanks to him. We'll definitely be doing this again, but this time we'll use the QR code to avoid any mistakes!

The most interesting part is in the first section of the route. Chappe Telegraph Pass with its view. The rest of the route offers no viewpoints.
