Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne walks

A lovely route that climbs to higher ground for beautiful views of the Dordogne Valley and the village of Altillac, before descending for a visit to Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne.

From the Dordogne valley, a path leads up to the heights of Altillac, south of the Xaintrie. The shared influence of Quercy (on the houses) and Cantal (on the barns) can be felt in the village.

Hike mainly in the woods, which is pleasant in hot weather. Panoramic view at the end of the route.

They are only accessible on foot or by train. The hike is almost entirely in the shade and, as a result, the trees often hide the view. Best attempted in spring or autumn?

This walk will take you through a pretty village, its lively centre with shops, the old wine press, the fountain-wash house, the church... You’ll leave the village for a circular route offering varied scenery, from the banks of the “River of Hope” towards the hills of the hamlets of Laborie and Chapou; a gentle descent will bring you back to the Palsou and the Bétaille plain. We’ll follow the old water channel that once fed a watermill; we’ll cross our beloved Palsou once more near the school to return to the village...
