Loop around Notre-Dame de Belpeuch

A loop, mainly through woods, starting from the charming and picturesque sanctuary of Notre-Dame de Belpeuch, which means "the beautiful mountain". Located in the heart of the Xaintrie, it contains a magnificent statue of the Virgin Mary, dating from the 15th century. There are a few steep slopes, but the walk is pleasant. Good walking shoes are necessary.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the Belpeuch sanctuary, in thecommune of Camps-Saint-Mathurin-Léobazel.

(S/E) Go back down the access road to the car park.

(1) At the end of a hairpin bend, take a path on the right. Descend, keeping north-west then west-north-west. Turn right then left. You will arrive at the Ruisseau du Quié.

(2) Then turn left (do not cross the stream). Leave the forest and follow the stream on your right.

(3) Cross the Ruisseau de Belpeuch and immediately turn left to follow it. The trail crosses it twice, then moves away from it to climb the hill, alternating between wooded and open paths. Join a path in the undergrowth.

(4) Turn left, follow a few hairpin bends, then join a track at the edge of the forest.

(5) Follow it, turning left, and join the hamlet of Sepval.

(6) Turn left, come out onto the D14, and follow it for about 100 metres, keeping in the same direction.

(7) At the Saules crossroads, leave the departmental road and go up the D13 opposite until you reach Randal.

(8) Just after a pond, turn left onto the small road that will take you to the hamlet of Quié.

(9) At the entrance to the hamlet, turn left, then left again to cross it. The road continues along two dirt tracks: take the one on the right that descends and leads to the D139, at a place called Le Treuil, at the bottom of Montagne de Belpeuch.

(10) Head left and follow the road to the crossroads. Turn right, then right again about 60 metres further on. Then climb up the Way of the Cross that starts on the right, just after the small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of La Salette, and come out between the two churches of the sanctuary. In this charming place, you can pray to the Virgin Mary, whose magnificent statue has been honoured here since the 15th century. Then return to the car park (S/E).
