The Tour des Monges
Lac des Monges, with its forest, mountain pastures and a magnificent ridge line offering exceptional views over the massifs of the Southern Alps (Dévoluy, Ecrins, Préalpes de Digne…). Please note that, despite the modest altitude, snow can linger well into the season.
From Lac d’Esparron to the Sommet des Monges, returning via the Col de Clapouse
A superb hike starting from Lac d’Esparron. The first part of the ascent winds through a dense and majestic forest, which is undoubtedly very pleasant for its coolness in summer. Upon reaching the edge of the Clapouse pastures, the landscape suddenly opens up to a magnificent panorama. The final part of the ascent takes place in open country, amidst a rugged, rocky landscape that feels almost timeless. At the summit of Costebelle, a breathtaking 360° view awaits you. Take a deep breath and treat your lungs to a real breath of fresh air.
Les Monges
A mountain walk through the forest with beautiful autumn colours. Stunning views from the top of Les Monges.
The Sagnières Aqueduct
An easy, shaded and varied hike that follows a small stream to an old aqueduct hidden in the vegetation. The circular hike offers beautiful views of the valley and the surrounding peaks.
Clapouse pastures - Authon
Second stage of the two-day trip to the Montagne des Monges.
Les Chanderettes
Very pretty summit with a 360° view. From Mont Ventoux to the Écrins and from Dévoluy to the Monges massif.
The route is varied, with very little tarmac, forest tracks and trails.
The climb is very pleasant among the oak and box trees.
Tête de la Plane and Dent de Gigors
The walk takes place in a beech forest and the highest point of this hike, above Gigors—the Tête de la Plane—is the reward for a pleasant but steep climb. The view over the Turriers plain is superb and is complemented by an orientation board describing the surrounding peaks.
Paturage and Barres de Chine
The Monges massif, a place to discover. A festive welcome from the marmots (with a bit of luck, one that lives in the old Chinese hut). A 360° view of all the massifs of the Alpes de Hautes Provence: Estrop, Cloches de Barles, Cheval Blanc.
Les Monges and Coste Belle from Authon
A beautiful hike that will take you to the easy summit of Les Monges, a magnificent viewpoint with a 360° view.
The Jouère ridge via the Château de la Mole
Starting from the pretty village of Valavoire, enjoy a walk along the ridge with superb 360° views and a visit to the curious site of the Château de la Mole.
A wild circular walk in the Monges massif
If you’d like to discover the wide open spaces, the magnificent views and the joys of the Basses-Alpes – unspoilt nature, the great outdoors, peace and tranquillity – this lovely circular walk will delight you.
Col des Cloches in Barles
A beautiful hike with no particular difficulties through the mountain pastures to reach the Col des Cloches. You can continue to the summit of one of the bells.
Shorter version of a previously published hike: Les Cloches de Barbes and summit of Chine via Le Forest
Les Cloches de Barles and the summit of Chine via the Forest
Les Cloches de Barles is no piece of cake to climb! Reaching the summit is like climbing to the top of a layer cake: you have to work up a sweat to earn your cherry. But once you're up there, it's a feast for the eyes. And to get back down, hop, a little bucolic stroll in picture-postcard style, between the Cabane des Prés and the Sommet de Chine, with dancing flowers and smiling meadows. In short, a real fairy tale hiking experience!
The Tour des Clues de Verdaches
Fairly easy hike around the Clues de Verdaches, deep gorges carved out of the mountain by the Bès. You will find beautiful views of the Blayeul in the first part of the hike, before overlooking the Bès on the way back (swimming possible in summer).
Serre de Malamort
The Serre de Malamort ridge is a remarkable balcony offering superb views, particularly of Dévoluy, Les Écrins and the Durance valley. The route often passes through woodland, so you can enjoy the beautiful colours of autumn.
