Col des Cloches in Barles

Departure from the car park at the entrance to the hamlet of Forest, which can be reached by car.

(S/E) Cross the hamlet following the yellow markings. At the exit, take the Route du Forest westwards to the first hairpin bend.

(1) Climb up the path opposite towards the south-west.

(2) Pass Ravin du Pillot, turn left to the south-west and continue to a small plateau where the path branches off to the right (altitude 1351).

(3) Turn onto this path, heading northwest, then southwest, alternating between sections of road and path, until you reach the Jasset shepherd's hut.

(4) The path passes under the hut to cross the stream and climb up opposite to the south-west. The sheep have left many tracks; try to follow the markings, otherwise, as you climb, look for them on the right. Reach a crossroads of paths at a watering hole.

(5) Turn left, to the south-east, following the signs, and take the balcony path to the Col des Cloches. At the pass, enjoy the views.
You can continue towards the Grande Cloche or the Petite Cloche for a 360° view.

(6) Turn around and follow the same route back to the car park (S/E).

The area is used for sheep grazing, so there are guard dogs. Take the usual precautions (if you have a dog, keep it on a leash and walk around the flock from a distance), walk around the flocks, or remain calm, stop, allow the dogs to identify you and then leave slowly.

There is no water on the route.

From Col des Cloches, there are beautiful panoramic views on both sides.
