South of Gréoux-les-Bains, cross the Verdon bridge and turn immediately left towards the Notre Dame des Œufs Chapel. Follow this small road to the end (not always in good condition but passable) to reach a large car park and Saint-Julien Beach.
(S/E) From the beach, head to a car park above and take the few steps leading to a very pleasant path (GRP® marked in yellow and red). Walk between Lac d’Esparron and the old canal. It is shaded, but you can enjoy lovely views of the lake.
(1) You’ll then pass through a tunnel, then follow a wall before climbing up to the plateau, via a slope that’s quite steep in places. You’ll reach the “balcon du lac” sign fairly quickly. The view is superb throughout this section.
(2) From the Balcon du Lac, head towards Lac d’Esparron on the left and descend to the lake (toilets at the start of the descent). Walk to the far end and follow the lake’s right-hand side. Swimming is possible in this section. Continue along the lakeshore towards “Le Quartier” (signposted).
(3) At the “Le Quartier” sign, near a building, leave the GRP® and turn sharply right (Yellow Cross – Red Cross).
(4) At the next junction, continue straight ahead (a few old red markers), go through a gate, and you’ll reach the “balcon du lac”.
(2) Then turn left, heading in the opposite direction, onto the path taken on the way there, to reach Plage Saint-Julien (S/E).
