From Gréoux-les-Bains, take the D952 towards Riez, then the D215 towards Lac d'Esparron and the Gréoux dam. About 500 m further on, you will cross the Colostre bridge.
Park immediately after, on the left in the improvised car park.
(S/E) The walk begins by following the path that climbs upstream. Shortly after passing under a canal bridge, the path leaves the edge of the Colostre. You will then come to an intersection.
(1) Take the path on the right that leads to a rocky outcrop. The only difficult part of the route is about a hundred metres before you reach the top of the spur: a metal ladder about 2 metres high that you have to climb. Turn around and enjoy the superb view of the Verdon valley and the EDF dam at Gréoux.
(2) Continue along the path, which becomes (almost) flat and quickly joins a track. Turn right.
The oppidum (or at least what remains of it) is in the woods just opposite (to the left of the path).
(3) About 200 metres further on, turn left at the fork. The path descends a little for about 100 metres and joins theGR® trail. Take this on the right. Follow the path, passing the Payanet lodge and then right next to a guest house in the hamlet of Payanet. Continue along the path.
(4) Stay on the path that joins the D82, which is paved (do not be tempted by theGR® which then continues to the left). Turn left and walk for about 200 metres.
(5) Then take the path that descends to the left. Follow this fairly steep path (be careful if it has rained recently, as the rocks can become very slippery) until you reach the bridge over the Colostre below.
Note: see the practical information section for visiting the village
Climb slightly and take the path that branches off to the right parallel to the Colostre (GR® markings).
(6) Follow this path for about 600 metres until you reach a junction. Continue straight ahead (sign indicating that this is not theGR® trail, red and white cross), still parallel to the Colostre. Continue along the path, which remains very close to the river, to return to the car park (S/E).
