Park in the small car park on the road from Gréoux-les-Bains to Esparron-de-Verdon, between Lourmant and Les Cades; the car park has a glass recycling bin and a small building opposite.
(S/E) Cross the road and take a small path that runs behind the small building; follow the red and white markings ofthe GR®4. Head towards the signpost for Source des Cades.
(1) Turn right and, behind the building, continue towards Esparron. You’ll come to a track; turn right, pass under a high-voltage power line and reach a road.
(2) Cross it and continue along the track opposite after passing through the barrier to keep out cars. At the end of the track, turn left onto the small road known as Chemin de l’Adrech du Deffends. You’ll reach a Y-junction at the end of this path.
(3) Keep to the right, still following the red and whiteGR® markings, cross a ford and, a little further on, join a road on the edge of the forest at a place called La Calade.
(4) Cross it carefully; leave theGR® here and take the uphill track opposite. Continue through the forest. You’ll soon come to a tarmac road. Follow it for a few metres, cut across the bend and rejoin it. Turn right off it, rejoin it once more and arrive at the car park of the Esparron-de-Verdon Emergency Services Centre.
(5) Turn left onto Rue des Fontaines. At the junction with the tree, continue straight on to reach Rue Sainte-Anne.
(6) Turn right onto this street, then left onto Rue des Gîtes. Next, take the steps on the right; at the bottom of the steps, continue to the left to reach Rue de la Chapelle and then Place de la Chapelle. Walk past the building on the left and carry on down the steps. At the bottom of the steps, turn left, then take the first set of steps on the right, which will lead you to Route du Cor des Aires.
(7) Turn left onto this road, then turn right to visit the harbour.
(8) Return to Route du Cor des Aires, then continue along Route du Sorbiou, which follows on from it. You will reach the castle.
(9) Carry on to the right along Rue du Château to visit the church and return to this point. Continue straight ahead along the uphill road. At the junction, turn left onto Route d’Albiosc. Walk past the Sainte-Magdeleine Chapel, then turn left onto Chemin des Fourches. Follow this path until you reach a crossroads just before Rue des Fontaines, which you took on the way out.
(10) Turn right onto this small, ascending path. Pass a ruin and, at the next junction, rejoin theGR®4; take this path and follow its red and white markings to reach the La Colle signpost.
(11) Stay on theGR® to the left and, after a downhill section, join a wider track.
(12) Turn left and return to the Calade crossroads you passed on the way out.
(4) Turn right and retrace your steps along the route you took on the way there to reach the Chemin de l’Adrech du Deffends junction.
(3) Leave theGR® here and continue straight on towards Bertagne; before entering the estate, turn left, join a track and turn right. Join the D82, keeping slightly to the left, to reach the junction with the D315.
(13) Turn left onto it for about ten metres, then take thefirst small path leading uphill to the right. Back on the road, continue for a few metres, then turn left onto the ridge path. Follow it due west until you reach a signpost.
(14) Turn left towards Esparron-de-Verdon. At the bottom of the descent, join the Gréoux road. Cross it carefully and then return to the car park (S/E).
