Auberge de Salanfe - Mex

During this stage of the Tour des Dents du Midi, at the Col du Jorat you will enjoy a panoramic view to the south of the peaks on the border with Italy. You will probably recognise the Matterhorn. You will also have a bird's eye view of the Lac de Salanfe, with the Dôme de la Sallière in the background. To the north, the Rhône valley awaits you. In the small village of Mex, nestled on a plateau, several viewpoints offer views of the villages in the valley, all the way to Lake Geneva.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Tour of the Dents du Midi and Petits Perrons

TDM signposting: Tour des Dents du Midi

(S) From the Auberge de Salanfe, head towards the lake and follow the path northwards. Follow the signs for Col de Susanfe, Col du Jorat and Tour des Dents du Midi.

(1) At the northern end of the lake, at the signpost, follow the path to the right towards the Col du Jorat.

(2) At the trail junction, turn right and begin the easy climb up to the pass. Enjoy the panoramic view to the southwest over Lake Salanfe and to the northeast over the Rhône Valley. You will reach the Col du Jorat.

(3) Begin the descent and go around a rocky outcrop on the left.

(4) At the intersection (altitude approx. 2,040 m), turn left and descend numerous switchbacks to arrive near the chalets of Jorat d'en Haut.

(5) Leave the chalets on your right and continue downhill.

(6) At the next intersection, turn left (ignore the path on the right) and stay on the TDM. Continue to lose altitude, now in the woods, making several turns until you reach a new intersection.

(7) Leave the track on your right and stay on the TDM, turning left. Cross the Saint Barthélémy stream and follow the almost flat path until you approach the village of Mex. Look carefully on your right for the start of a path with a small sign for Chemin des Moulas.

(8) Leave the road and take the path that climbs slightly and leads to the centre of the village. Pass in front of the church, then the Place des Fontaines and easily return to the Auberge de l'Armailli (E)
