Aregno walks

Sant'Antonino is located in the heart of Balagne, perched at an altitude of 500 metres on a granite peak near L'Île-Rousse and Calvi, between the sea and the mountains. The village overlooks the Aregno plain on one side and part of the Reginu plain on the other. A veritable eagle's nest, it consists of around 75 houses, built close together and winding around a granite peak, forming a labyrinth to better resist any invaders (Source: Wikipedia).

A lovely little walk along the trails of Balagne with beautiful views. Between Pigna and San Antoninu. Pleasant in early autumn. No particular difficulty except for the slightly steep climb between the convent and Mont Sant Angelo.

This short circular starting from the village of Avapessa is short and easy, making it ideal for family walks with children, for example. The fact that much of the route is shaded makes it ideal for summer walks. Please note: the route presented here avoids a section of road suggested by the IGN map in favour of a wooded, signposted path marked in red.

A short, easy walk, but with truly breathtaking views over the Balagne region, between Ile-Rousse and Calvi. The path offers unobstructed views throughout the entire route and is largely shaded in the morning. Some sections have steps, but the walk is generally easy. It really is a lovely walk.

This walk takes you to Corbara from the seaside, following old traditional paths, and offers some stunning views over Aregno Bay. It is possible to reach the start point by public transport: the Bastia–Calvi train, which, between Île-Rousse and Calvi, offers on-demand stops along the beach – in this case, the Plage d’Aregno stop. The first section crosses the plain behind the beach, followed by the climb up to Corbara via an old mule track offering sweeping views of Algajola Bay on one side and the villages perched above (Corbara, Pigna, etc.) on the other. For the return journey, the walk is circular and loops below the village, once again offering stunning views of the sea and mountains, before rejoining the outbound route at the flat section.

The trail starts in the small village of Corbara, passes through Mont Sant'anghulu, and on the way back, you will come across the abandoned convent of the same name.

At an altitude of 377 m above Lumio lies the ruined village of Occi. In the 15th century, it was inhabited by people who had deserted the coast to flee the Saracens. The 17th and 18th centuries saw the decline of the village. Occi was attached to Lumio in 1852. Felice Giudicelli, known as Fra Felice, the last inhabitant, died there on 22 November 1918. The 15th-century Baroque church of the Annunziata was rebuilt from its ruins (the work was partly financed by Laetitia Casta).

A very useful alternative in hot (or very hot) weather, this walk largely follows the classic route from Lumio to Occi (a ruined village above Lumio). This short walk still allows you to enjoy magnificent views of the Bay of Calvi and the village of Lumio in a short space of time if you don't want to walk too far.

Discover the Maison du Bandit: a project well worth the effort, offering a superb view over the village of Feliceto. An imposing building set against the rock face is sure to catch the visitor’s eye. Built in the 19th century by a local dignitary – most likely the mayor – it is said to have later served as a hideout for passing bandits.

An easy walk below the village of Felicito: typical mule tracks; two pretty Genoese bridges; a swimming spot; beautiful views of the surrounding mountains of Balagne.

An easy short hike that passes through the abandoned village of Occi to Capu Bracajo before descending to Lumio. A place steeped in history that you can visit while walking along a pretty trail.

This hike is an extension of the classic walk to the abandoned village of Occi above Lumio. It offers a panoramic view of the Balagne region from the summit of Capu d'Occi. The entire circuit is well marked and alternates between paths, scrubland and rocks. The section from the abandoned village of Occi to the summit of Capu d'Occi is marked with orange dots. I would not recommend this section for young children, and it is essential to take water with you.

A circular hike that allows you to visit three villages in Balagne whilst taking in views of the Réginu and Montegrosso plains on both sides. With its wooded sections and magnificent views, this hike is a wonderful way to discover the region. In the background, the magnificent Montegrossu looms over the village of Zilia at the start.

Discover Pointe Carchincu and Pointe Spano as you walk along the coast. There are plenty of opportunities to swim in crystal-clear waters in spectacular locations.

This short hike is interesting for its various monuments: fountains, wash house, ruined castle, houses, church and even a beehive house. The path is shaded. The gentle slope makes for an easy heritage walk at the foot of the village of Speloncato, which is ideal for families.

As you walk along the coast, this walk will allow you to explore the remains of the built heritage, whilst admiring the view of the Gulf of Calvi and its citadel. The route passes by the square Tower of Caldanu and arrives at the round Tower of Spano. Two different Genoese architectural styles serving the same purpose: to watch for dangers coming from the sea...

The legendaryGR®20, done in a north-south direction... renowned as the most difficult ofthe GR® trails... Quite dizzying aerial passages alternate with easier passages, especially in the south. Very beautiful landscapes.

This is the first stage ofthe GR®20in Corsica when travelling from north to south. A difficult stage due to the significant elevation gain, and above all because it is the first day of a long series...

An interesting hike at the foot of San Parteo, offering superb views of the Giussani villages.

Ascending Monte Grosso via the Melaja Forest. A breathtaking view from the summit over the whole of Balagne, the Agriates and Cap Corse in the distance. A fairly difficult hike, but shorter than if you start from Calenzana.

One can only admire the tremendous work of man carving a beautifully paved path along these narrow valleys to connect the villages or access the mills. Stone is everywhere, both on the trail and in the village of Mausoléo. The Tartagine invites you to swim or cool off. As for the bridges, what harmonious curves! An unmissable hike.
