You can park in the car park in front of the restaurant or in a car park on a platform behind the "Casa di Mà" restaurant, which you go around on the right (the slope is very steep for cars, so take care with your car's undercarriage when accessing the platform)
(S/E) The trail starts in Lumio, next to theCasa Di Mà restaurant, and is marked with metal arrows indicating the route to the abandoned village of Occi.
Access to the village of Occi is via a path that winds its way up through the scrubland, offering interesting views of the Sant'Ambrogio marina and Punta Spano. In summer, before 11 a.m., there is some shade on this section.
When you arrive at the village, go around it on the left and you will come to the chapel.
(1) Leave the chapel on your right and you will see the start of the red/orange markings on your left, which will take you behind some ruined houses.
You will begin the climb and discover an old grain threshing floor with a superb view of the village of Occi and Punta Spano.
Follow the red/orange markings (not very visible) through the scrub to reach the summit of Capu d'Occi. Be careful, from the threshing platform onwards, there is no shade and the scrub can scratch your calves a little
Along the climb to the summit, the markings are clearly visible. The last 50 metres before the summit are in a slightly steeper area but are not dangerous.
(2) The summit offers a panoramic view of Calvi, Sant'Ambrogio and the valley towards Lavatoggio.
The descent is on the other side of the mountain along a path that winds through the scrub, which is fairly easy going, except for the scrub that scratches a little
(3) You will see a small chapel in the valley. This path joins the return route of the loop from the village of Occi, which you will recognise by the steel signposts.
(4) The return path begins between two dry stone walls, where you may encounter a few stray cows (or their tracks... watch your step).
The descent is along a fairly easy, half-paved path.
(5) About halfway down, if you wish, you will find a signpost pointing to the cross on the right, which overlooks the village of Lumio. This takes about 12 minutes there and back.
Then continue downhill, which will take you through the narrow streets of the village of Lumio to your starting point (S/E).
. Once you reach the village of Occi, the signposting to Capu d'Occi is not great, so you need to pay attention.
