Appietto walks

A very beautiful hike a few kilometres from Ajaccio with magnificent views of the surrounding gulfs and peaks. This walk combines part of the PR® trail between Appietto and Calcatoggio, a magnificent walk along the ridges and numerous points of interest such as the ruins of an old chapel, a dolmen and a stone castle!

If you want to set off like an explorer in the footsteps of the ancient Corsican paths, rich in history and discoveries (numerous threshing floors), then this hike is for you. It will allow you to discover exceptional panoramas of the Golfes di Lava and Sagone on your right, as well as the high mountains of Corsica. After an hour's walk, the views open up onto the beaches of Capo di Feno and Saint-Antoine on your left. Optionally, you can access Punta di l'Avena on your right, but be warned that you may be disappointed if the scrub is not cleared. You will finally arrive at the most inaccessible and secret Genoese tower in the region: solitude and a sense of mystery guaranteed. This hike is a round trip on forgotten and unmaintained trails, in dense scrubland where you have to make your own way: follow the recommendations and the trail carefully, as well as the few blue markers on the ground.

This is a great hike, best done in the morning. Superb views of the Prunelli and Gravone valleys. No difficulties, very well marked route in yellow.

A pleasant short hike through the maquis to the Frassu Tower, which offers a beautiful view of the Gulf of Ajaccio, Porticcio and the Capitello Tower. A walk between the sea and the maquis to the Genoese tower of La Parata, with a superb view of the Sanguinaires Islands.

This superb hike offers exceptional views of the Gulf of Ajaccio during the first part (Petite Corniche). The second part follows the Grande Corniche trail and offers breathtaking views of the Sanguinaires Islands and Capo di Feno. Finally, you arrive at the splendid Saint-Antoine Beach. The large Capo di Feno beach can be reached in a few minutes by following the path that starts at the end of Saint-Antoine. After this refreshing stop, you will return via the path that cuts through a densely wooded area offering a few views of the beaches. This hike is a circular route on good quality paths, often along the coast but shaded if you set off in the morning. The return journey is in the shade of the forest or scrubland. Please note that the return journey begins with a very steep climb. As a bonus, there is a little-known passage that offers a unique bird's eye view of the beaches of Saint-Antoine and Capo di Feno.

This short hike will take you to the Genoese tower of Omigna, along the coastline of the point of the same name. The tower has been beautifully restored and offers views of the Sanguinaires Islands to the south and Capo Rosso to the north.

A pleasant family walk, best done early in the morning or late afternoon. Bring your swimsuit and then head to Mare e Sole Beach, which is sublime with its fine sand.

One of the most beautiful hikes in Corsica. The path is pleasant, with part of it in the woods. The arrival at the lake is a magical moment. The lake appears in a setting, even if there are a few people around, the place is conducive to quiet conversation. A very beautiful place for a picnic.

Short walk from the car park opposite the prison to the dam reservoir. From here, there is a beautiful view of the valley. In the lake, you will see fish, lots of dragonflies and, perhaps, the two frogs.

While the Calanches de Piana are world-famous, the forest that surrounds them is much less so. This beautiful forest of maritime pines stretches out on either side of the rocky ridge that gives rise to the Calanches. This circuit allows you to explore it before reaching the main site.

For this last stage, as soon as you leave Evisa, take the discovery trail and descend the beautiful Spelunca Gorges. After the Genoese bridge at Pianella, you will arrive at the beautiful village of Ota and descend towards the marina at Porto.

Along this fairly easy educational walk (with lots of interesting information boards), you will discover the hard life of the farmers of yesteryear in the midst of chestnut and Laricio pine trees. A magical forest where you expect to meet a fairy behind every patch of moss on a rock. Perhaps they have turned into pigs nibbling on chestnuts along the way. Further on, you will walk along the Aïtone with its pools (8°C!) and waterfalls... very popular in summer as it is accessible from a tarmac road. The best time to visit is October/November for the colours and manageable crowds.

This paved path, supported by a magnificent dry stone wall, can be considered exceptional for the quality of its construction. It was the only route available to those travelling by mule from Piana to Porto and Ota in the early19th century. The Piana-Porto road was only opened in 1850 by Napoleon III. This route is shaded, making it ideal on hot days! It is suitable for children, who will enjoy playing in the water afterwards. When you start the hike after the bridge over the Porto River, you will see signs indicating that the route is closed due to bad weather. These signs are old and there is no problem until the bridge. Apparently, there are landslides on the path after the Zaglia bridge towards Evisa.

The summit of Vitullu is, wrongly, very little frequented compared to the nearby Capo D'Orto. Interesting if you want to be more alone.Vitullu (1,331 m) is slightly higher and offers a splendid view.At its summit is a pyramid, an IGN landmark.

This hike to the Tour de Turghiu (Capo Rosso) offers one of the most beautiful views in Corsica from the summit. For several years now, improvements have been made to the route. A variant has been created to follow the coastline and its coves on the way back. The road you take by car from the village of Piana to the starting point offers a balcony view of the Gulf of Porto, the Calanques de Piana and the Corsican mountains. PLEASE NOTE: according to two comments received on 9 May and 1 June 2025, the "Littoral" section is not accessible. Please follow the directions.

This beautiful hike allows you to discover the Capo Rosso coastline up to the top of the Genoese tower overlooking the cape. The easy path at the beginning ends on the rocks that form Capo Rosso. The hike is a round trip from the car park to the top of the Genoese tower at Turghiu.

At the gateway to Alta Rocca, this moderately difficult hike allows you to enjoy the exquisite scents of the maquis in spring. The route begins with a pleasant woodland trail before reaching the ridge, which offers views of the Taravo valley and the Rizzanèze valley. From San Petru, there is a magnificent panoramic view of the Gulf of Valinco (Propriano) as far as the Gulf of Ajaccio. On the way back, the descent is opposite the Aiguilles de Bavella.
