Saint-Antoine or Sevani beach via the long circular coastal path

This superb hike offers exceptional views of the Gulf of Ajaccio during the first part (Petite Corniche). The second part follows the Grande Corniche trail and offers breathtaking views of the Sanguinaires Islands and Capo di Feno. Finally, you arrive at the splendid Saint-Antoine Beach. The large Capo di Feno beach can be reached in a few minutes by following the path that starts at the end of Saint-Antoine. After this refreshing stop, you will return via the path that cuts through a densely wooded area offering a few views of the beaches. This hike is a circular route on good quality paths, often along the coast but shaded if you set off in the morning. The return journey is in the shade of the forest or scrubland. Please note that the return journey begins with a very steep climb. As a bonus, there is a little-known passage that offers a unique bird's eye view of the beaches of Saint-Antoine and Capo di Feno.

Description of the walk

Park in the dirt car park at Terre Sacrée beach, on the left at the roundabout when coming from Ajaccio.

(S/E) Return to the roundabout and go around it on the left to cross the D11 carefully. Take the D11b opposite and follow it on the left-hand side. Leave the street on your left and continue to the start of the path on the left: on the other side of the road, you will see a sign for "Bois des Anglais".

(1) Take this path on the left, which climbs gradually towards the Petite Corniche. On the left, below, you can see the first villas. The path climbs steadily, then alternates between ascents and descents, offering superb views of the Gulf of Ajaccio and the Sanguinaires Islands.

(2) At the left-hand bend, ignore the path on the right that climbs towards Saint-Antoine, which will be the return route. Keep left and continue. At the right-hand bend, ignore the path on the left that descends towards the Route des Sanguinaires and continue to a crossroads.

(3) Keep left towards the Parata site and enter a fairly dense, cool forest. After about 100 metres, take the path that climbs through the undergrowth on the right and continue to the next crossroads.

(4) Turn right onto the 4x4 track that climbs gently towards the semaphore, in the direction of La Parata.

(5) Cross Route du Sémaphore, take the 4x4 track opposite towards La Parata and you will come out onto a tarmac road called Sen Cala di Reta.

(6) Turn right onto this road, which continues as a 4x4 track towards Saint-Antoine Beach: superb views of La Parata and the Sanguinaires. You will pass small beach huts.

(7) Take the path that continues straight ahead, leaving the track that descends to the seaside on your left. After the climbing wall on the right, the path becomes steeper and more difficult: superb views of the rugged coastline, the Sanguinaires and Capo di Feno.

(8) Our bonus: take the small path on the left that climbs through the scrub for about a hundred metres. At the end, from the large rock, there is a splendid view of the beaches of Saint-Antoine and Capo di Feno with Capo di Feno in the distance. Retrace your steps and continue left along the 4x4 track that descends to Saint-Antoine beach.

(9) After the villa, take the stairs on the left that descend steeply to Capo di Feno beach, then retrace your steps.

(9) Follow the 4x4 track on the left for about 100 metres and then take the steep path on the right into a dense forest. After a left-hand bend, the view opens up and the path begins a slight descent before climbing again to reach a fork.

(10) Turn left onto the Sentier des Crêtes for about 300 metres.

(11) Take the small path on the right marked by a cairn: this is a very narrow path that descends steeply through dense scrubland.

(12) Continue straight ahead to rejoin the wider Petite Corniche trail taken at the start of the hike.

(2) Continue straight ahead and retrace your steps to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Even though the most difficult parts of this hike are in the cool shade of a dense forest, the sections along the cliff edge can be challenging in direct sunlight: it is best to set off early in the morning to take advantage of the shade on the western side. It is recommended that you bring plenty of water and food, as the sun is very strong.

Wear good shoes and bring walking sticks, as the trails can be very slippery and steep in places.
Hats and sunglasses are essential, as the sun is very strong at the seaside!
Binoculars, cameras and video cameras are essential.
But don't forget a fleece, as the wind is cool in winter and spring.

Worth a visit

Swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Saint-Antoine Beach: don't forget your swimsuits and towels.

Superb views all along the Petite and Grande Corniche trails.

Bonus: views of the beaches of Saint-Antoine and Capo di Feno.
