The song of the seagulls accompanies your steps, while flamingos, like quiet sentinels, dot the horizon. This easy route, accessible to all, invites you to slow down, contemplate and feel the soul of the Camargue in all its diversity: between spirituality, biodiversity and Mediterranean light.

A hike with many facets, which lends itself to numerous variations, including a short 12 km version. The route mainly follows the Digue à la Mer between the ponds (to the north) and the Mediterranean Sea (to the south). On the way there, a path between canals and ponds allows you to observe many birds. On the way back, you can walk along the sea on the beach.

This easy circular takes you to the heart of one of the jewels of the Camargue: the Pont de Gau Ornithological Park, located a few kilometres from Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Between marshes, reed beds and lagoons, the trail winds through a landscape shaped by water and wind, offering a total immersion in the world of migratory birds.Flamingos, herons, egrets and sometimes even rarer species can be seen by walkers, often just a few metres away. Set between the two canals of southern Gard, the vineyard plots of the Costières de Nîmes AOP and a viewpoint overlooking the ponds, this easy walk will transport you through the varied landscapes of the Camargue in the Gard. It’s the perfect opportunity to observe the typical Costières terroir, with its pebbles smoothed over millennia by the Rhône, the wine-growing farmhouses and their imposing gates, whilst keeping an eye out for the Camargue birds that inhabit the banks of the canals.
