Villar-Loubière - Refuge des Souffles
Efirst stage to warm up your legs before climbing to the Refuge des Souffles.
Refuge des Souffles - Refuge de l'Olan
A magnificent second stage in a very mineral setting, culminating in the Pas de l'Olan pass.
From the Souffles refuge, continue on theGR® 54 towards Lac Lautier, then the Col des Colombes and finally the Pas de l'Olan (caution: technical passage).
From the pass, admire the landscape before gently descending to the Refuge de l'Olan.
Olan Mountain Hut – Clot Mountain Hut (Xavier Blanc)
A very beautiful third stage, albeit a little long, mainly at the bottom of the valley along the Séveraisse.
Walk to Lake Adus
This short walk, mainly through the forest, will take you to a pretty little mountain lake (2,130 m).
It's a good warm-up or an easy goal that can be done with children who are good walkers (be warned, it's still in the mountains, so... it's uphill).
Lac des Adus loop
This short circular loop takes you past Lac des Adus, then on a short way towards Pointe des Adus, before returning via theGR®®52.As it runs mainly through woodland, it’s particularly pleasant on hot days.
Summit of Gélas
This route, which is closer to simple mountaineering than standard hiking, provides access to the highest peak in the Mercantour. From the summit, there is an exceptional panorama of the surrounding mountains and a view of the sea, stretching as far as Corsica on a clear day.
The proposed ascent is via the small pass Saint-Robert and the west-southwest ridge, descending via the northeast ridge and the Balcon du Gélas.
Cirque de Férisson and Cime de la Valette de Prals
A circular hike starting from the Férisson cattle shed and passing through all the ridges around the Férisson cirque.
Superb views all along the way, with the sea on one side and the Mercantour peaks on the other.
As the end of the route is off-trail and unmarked, a good sense of direction and route-finding skills are essential.
Clelles - Ferme du Désert
The first day is a long one, starting at the foot of Mont-Aiguille with alternating steep climbs and gentler passages through mountain pastures and forests.
From Bonneval to the Carro refuge
This first stage, starting from one of the most beautiful villages in France, is a gentle warm-up that culminates (for the more adventurous) at the Col du Carro (3,149 m), the border between France and Italy and a magnificent viewpoint in fine weather, offering views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers.
From the Fond des Fours Refuge to the Col de la Vanoise Refuge
A long stage for this third day with very varied landscapes and terrain. It’s a shame that the road section after the Refuge de la Femma can’t be avoided, as it’s rather uninteresting. You’ll have to wait until the Refuge d’Entre Deux Eaux to finally get back on a trail. The difficulty is mainly due to the distance, as the elevation gains aren’t too steep and the trails are in good condition.
From the Lacs Merlet refuge to the Péclet-Polset refuge
After the long stages of the previous days, this one is more leisurely. The climb to the Col du Soufre is gradual until you reach the edge of the Gébroulaz glacier. The beauty of the Col du Soufre (the day’s highest point), with its ochre and white colours, more than makes up for the day’s efforts.
