The inhabitants are no longer here, but let us cherish a personal memory as we pass through the hamlet of L’Estagnol and the Mas d’Agre, whilst soaking up the atmosphere of days gone by; cross the Estagnol de Lacan plain and the Pont d’Agre, go round the Roc de la Jarre and the Mas de l’Arbousier, then head back down via Combe de Légeaux and part of Combe Malafosse.

Then reach the Source de la Buèges via the stream path.

A memorial to all the writers who fought in the two world wars. The war cross carved with stars by the paths lined on either side with steles bearing the names of writers who fought during those periods. An iconic forest site that immerses us in a haven of greenery and peace. It is also a good idea to visit the top of the Colombières gorges and its climbing spots to get a perspective of the surrounding environment.

Le Barry, a small village at the foot of the vineyards and the ruined Château de Castellas, near the village of Montpeyroux, provides access to the trails and a route through ancestral lands, vineyards and the La Font du Griffe sheepfold to join theGR® 74 towards the legendary Mont Saint-Baudille. From this spot, the view stretches across all the surrounding mountains and plains. Descent via Le Pioch Farrio, Le Joncas and La Croix de Fer.

Murviel-Lès-Montpellier, a small village nestled in the heart of the vine-covered hillsides, steeped in memories and history. For hikers and visitors in search of the past, nature lovers and adventure seekers, this is a place to discover in order to better face the future.

A walk downstream along the banks of the Buèges is a bucolic, relaxing route that will delight the uninitiated. Blend into the landscape where nature, in season, displays its thousand colours and seasonal scents, offering a changing and picturesque landscape in all its generosity. The area is cool and the silent, blue-coloured river is ideal for swimming. Pass through the medieval village of Saint-Jean-de-Buèges, which you can visit if you wish.

These iconic sites transport us to a distant past, allowing us to discover them. Some effort will be required to reach them, involving crossing paths, trails, streams, passages through undergrowth and coppice, and a few technical sections suitable for all. There are plenty of surprises in store for those who take the time to explore.

The Gardiole mountains: Pioch Noir (216 m), Pioch de Camille (224 m), Roc d'Anduze (234 m), Peyre Plantade (160 m), Rulet et Cabanes (140 m), Pioch Redonel (129 m) and other mountain passes offer a fairly comprehensive view of the four cardinal points. They offer a sublime panorama of the mountains and valleys across the entire perimeter. The views are remarkable. It is impossible to leave without taking with you what nature has to offer. Set off to explore these ancient places in remembrance of times gone by. Pass through Combe Fourche, the Chemin de la Jasse des Chèvres, the Muscat vineyard-covered slopes, the Roc d’Anduze and its promontory, the Crêtes de Saint-Félix, Monceau Abbey, Rulets and Cabanes, and Pioch de Camille with its panoramic views, before finishing on the discovery trail. Vailhauquès, surrounded by its ruins, is an iconic place where the village, marked by its past and looking towards its future, proudly embraces its history. Discover unusual and surprising places, notably its dolmens on a north-west dial, which will spark the curiosity of history buffs.

It is interesting to delve into the past and discover little-known places that give us a glimpse into the history of our roots. For me, this is evident when visiting the Oppidum de la Roque site. It seemed appropriate to include a site that is also indirectly but historically related to a connection between ancient and contemporary history. This is La Chapelle Saint-Bauzille (Saint-Baudile).
