To get to the starting point, take the D185, Fabrègues <> Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, near the Montpellier SPA shelter - Métropole-Fourrière Animale Noé. Park in the dirt car park near the animal shelter and opposite the information sign: Gardiole Mont-Bauzille.
Important notes:
This route takes place in the middle of numerous trails and paths, so using GPS or a mobile app will make it easier to find your way.
(S/E) Start from the car park (information sign: Gardiole Mont-Bauzille), keep to the right of the road heading east and cross the dirt car park (SPA). Turn right heading south, find a track and follow the fence of the animal shelter on your left. Go through the gate (close it behind you) and continue along the track.
Reach a dirt mound (between a grove and a rock), turn left and cross it to find a track. Continue south on a path (avoid all exits) and arrive at a dirt mound at a crossroads.
(1) Go straight ahead heading south, avoid two exits on the left and right, continue uphill on a stony, rutted track and avoid all exits. After a wide right-hand bend, you will reach an open area. Take thefirst path on the left uphill in a south-westerly direction and avoid all exits. After crossing a mound, reach the rear of La Chapelle Saint-Bauzille and go around it on the right-hand side to arrive opposite the Croix Saint-Bauzille at a fork.
(2) Take thesecond exit on the left of the cross, descend in a south-westerly direction and, after a right-hand bend, reach a fork. Keep right in the same direction and approach a crossroads. Turn right downhill in a north-easterly direction and, in a left-hand bend, find the fork.
Continue left, cross a wide path and reach a section. Keep right, descend, negotiate a left-hand bend, follow the road on your right and arrive at a section.
(3) Turn left downhill, keep to the right of the road above and reach a wide crossroads below. Turn left onto a stony path and find an exit at the bend. Continue straight ahead at the 100 contour line and reach an intersection.
(4) Turn right onto the descending path, cross Table Mise and reach a stream and a fork. Continue straight ahead uphill to a crossroads. Turn right, pass between the stone blocks, follow a property and cross the pylon and power line. End up in a left-hand bend (stone-lined path) and approach a section. Turn right heading east (Chemin de l'Aire de l'Hermite), cross the power line and a stream to the left of the path and rejoin a track. Turn left and reach a fork.
(5) Turn left onto the path, cross the power line and follow a stream on your left. Keep to the right and you will come to a large crossroads. Keep left uphill, make a 90° turn and you will come to an intersection.
(6) Turn right onto the path (called Blaze), cross Puech Rousset and you will come to another intersection.
Turn right downhill and reach a fork. Keep right straight ahead (enclosure wall on your right), on the tarmac path lined with properties, cross a power line and reach the fork. Turn right, keep left and at a three-way junction, rejoin a wide crossroads. Continue left, join the road, cross the motorway tunnel (be careful, road crossing), after 100 m, move right and join an exit.
(7) Turn right onto the uphill path, follow the motorway on your right and avoid all exits. Cross the power lines, keep heading north-east, level with the water tanks, and you will reach a crossroads.
(8) Turn left to access the Oppidum de La Roque site. Cross the stone blocks and keep right at the fork. Continue along the track, keeping to the left. Cross the summit of La Roque. Avoid all exits by keeping to the left (stay on the visible track). Access a steep slope.
Do not cross the stream below -
Turn right at the cairn facing south, keep to the right.
Continue for 150 m, keeping right again at the cairn.
Continue along the track lined with scrub (be careful to spot it), in a left-hand bend, cross a stream, go uphill and reach an intersection at the stone block.
(9) Turn right towards the south. Stay on the track, with a view of the ruins of the Oppidum de la Roque on your right, south-west side, and you will find another track and a cairn.
Turn right, walk along a ruined wall, cross other ruins of the Oppidum and reach the fork (you can visit the remains). Continue along the track to leave the Oppidum de la Roque site and find a path.
Turn left downhill, keeping the Moulin du Martinet and a private property on your left. Continue downhill, cross the power lines and go through the motorway tunnel. Cross the power lines uphill and the top of the Moulin de la Resse and reach a fork. Turn right and reach a junction. Continue left, follow the 47 mark, and return to a road junction. Cross the D185 road and continue left to reach the car park (S/E).
