Description of the walk

Parking in Weil (towards Otterbach, Basel) just after the fire station, Baslerstrasse 41. Parking disc required for a maximum stay of 10 hours.

(S/E) When leaving the car park, take the small street on the right and then the path on the left, Dr Peter Willmann Allee, and admire the urban art wall on the right. You will come to a crossroads.

(1) Turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach a road. Cross it carefully to reach Dreiländerplatz.

(2) Turn right onto Regioweg (with its stones engraved with Alemannic adjectives, which all dialect speakers will understand) and follow it to Pirolweg, very close to the Wiese.

(3) Enter Switzerland and take the track on the right towards the Eisernersteg bridge, which you can see a few hundred metres away.

(4) Cross the bridge and turn left along the Wiese to follow the river upstream. See Practical Information.
Follow the Wiese to the next bridge, the Weiersteg.

(5) Cross the river and the Wiesendammpromenade path. Here, leave Switzerland and cross to the opposite side of the cycle path, then turn right and cross a small bridge over the Krebsbach. Continue left on the small tarmac road, am Sohleck, to pass in front of the animal shelter. At the end of the street, pass under a small road bridge and then take the path on the left into the "oval" of the Dreiländergarten.

(6) Continue along the oval, first turning right then left, and follow it for about 300 metres until you reach a crossroads (stairs on the left).

(7) Leave the oval and follow a long pedestrian path (Dr Peter Willmann Allee) straight ahead, which leads to the car park. Please note that this pedestrian path crosses the road that bypasses Weil and there is no pedestrian crossing. This long path is lined with Paulownia trees. See Practical Information.
Pass the Laguna and other sports facilities to reach the crossroads from the outward journey.

(1) Keep going and return to the car park via the same route you took on the way there (S/E).

Notes

From (4) to (5) The Wiese rises in the Feldberg and flows into the Rhine near the port of Basel. At a small lock, there is a restaurant that marks the halfway point.
This path along the Wiese is very picturesque and offers a change of scenery.

From (7) to (1) Paulowniatrees: these tall trees bear bell-shaped flowers in large clusters of mauve/pink. In spring, they are particularly beautiful.

The entire route is uncovered, so it is best avoided in hot weather.
