Obertüllingen, Tüllinger Berg, Daur Hütte

A pleasant little route through the forest, going from Obertüllingen to the Daur Hütte and back. Magnificent panoramic views from the car park over Basel, the Jura, the Alsatian villages and the Kembs-Loechlé lock, the Vosges... On the way back, views of the villages of the Black Forest foothills, Lörrach, Rötteln Castle, the Wiesental, Riehen and St. Chrischona with its tower and, depending on the weather, a few Alpine peaks can be seen to the east through the gap in the hills.

Description of the walk

Hikers’ car park (Wanderparkplatz) with 140 spaces in Obertüllingen, Lindenplatz, with plenty of benches.

(S/E) On leaving the car park, take the path on the left, towards the summit of the Tüllinger Berg and the forest. Ignore the first path, immediately on the left, which is a dead end leading towards the plain to admire the landscape, as well as the one descending to the right towards Tüllingen. At the Hindenburg monument, take the path on the right, heading uphill. Stay on this path (do not turn left towards the forest house).

(1) Follow the path on the left which crosses the forest along the ridge of the Tüllinger Berg, following the Hoheweg. A very beautiful, quiet and peaceful walk through a forest of tall beech trees. Go straight on at the junction with the Marktfrauenweg – Käferholz.

(2) Ignore the track on the right and continue straight on to the Daur Hütte.

(3) Large picnic area and barbecue. Walk on to the edge of the forest to admire the view.
Turn back. Ignore the first path on the left. Continue straight ahead.

(2) Take the unmarked track on the left. Join the Westweg about a hundred metres further on and follow it to the end. See practical information.

(4) Turn right and stay on this path marked with a Red Diamond, heading towards Obertüllingen. Ignore the paths on either side and go straight on, skirting the forest.

(1) Follow the same route back as on the way there, until you reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

We prefer the second path on the left to the first, as the latter has a grassy section in the warmer months (ticks) and can be a bit muddy after a spell of rain

Worth a visit

Daur-Hütte, a large shelter named after a local painter and graphic artist, Hermann Daur (1870–1925). This shelter was originally built in 1925 by the Schwarzwaldverein Lörrach, then rebuilt following a fire in 1980. At the shelter, there are plenty of benches and tables, but above all a magnificent panoramic view of the villages in the Black Forest foothills, the Blauen, Rötteln Castle, the Wiese Valley, Lörrach... The spot is perfect for a break to take in the scenery.

The Tüllingerberg is a "Landschaftsschutzgebiet" (landscape conservation area), a "Natura 2000" site, and its eastern and southern slopes form part of the "Naturpark Schwarzwald Süd" (Southern Black Forest Nature Park)... Beneath our feet and within our sight lie natural, cultural and geological treasures to be admired and preserved.
