Description of the walk

Park in the car park behind the post office in Le Teil.

(S/E) Take Chemin Germaine Montagnon, following the markings on the cycle path, until you reach a climb on the left that takes you to the start of the Greenway.

(1) Follow this old railway line that connected Le Teil to Aubenas.

(2) Cross the bridge on Avenue Mattéoti and continue.

(3) After crossing Chemin de Malaure (Route de Mélas), there is a small car park on the left if you want to shorten the hike.

(4) Go through the first tunnel at Charonsac and continue.

(5) Go through the second tunnel at Pontet.

(6) At the exit, pass a small cabin on the left. Continue on the Greenway and reach the entrance to the third tunnel, which is 900 m long.

(7) Enter the tunnel: lighting is essential.

(8) Exit the tunnel and pass under a small road bridge. After passing a small house on your left that looks like an old railway station, look for the car park of the disused factory on your right, which can be used as a possible starting point to shorten the hike. Continue along the Greenway.

(9) Cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de l'Éguille, then another over the Ruisseau d'Aunas.

(10) Cross the road carefully: note that there is a car park on the right. Continue to the entrance of the fourth tunnel called Téoulemale. Exit the tunnel, cross the Téoulemale viaduct and arrive at the end of the Greenway at a place called Les Plagnes.

(12) Follow the same route in reverse to return to the starting point (S/E).

Notes

Lighting for the tunnels (headlamp, torch, etc.) isessential.

You can either do a round trip or, if there are several of you, leave a vehicle in one of the car parks so that you only have to do the outward journey.

Hiking boots are not necessary; a pair of trainers will do. This is a tarmac track.

There is no water along the route, so bring a water bottle.

Watch out for cyclists!

Please note that the Greenway is still under construction. This hike will therefore be updated at a later date.

Worth a visit

At the exit of the second tunnel, you pass under the bridge of the Teil bypass and there is a beautiful view of the rocks on the right. You also cross a pretty bridge.

After the car park in the Fontgiraud industrial estate (near the old Alba station), you will see an old restored railway switch.
