To reach the car park:
- coming from Montélimar, head towards Rochemaure via the D11, cross the bridge over the Rhône Canal. As you come down the bridge, there are a few parking spaces on the right;
- coming from Rochemaure, go round the roundabout on the D86, head towards Montélimar and cross the bridge over the Rhône; drive on for about a hundred metres to park on the left.
Please ensure you do not obstruct the opening of the barrier.
(S/E) Go through the barrier and take the Chemin de l’Île de la Conférence. At the junction, continue straight ahead towards the Himalayan footbridge. Take the footbridge and continue on to reach the railway bridge. Carry on until you reach the N86. Cross it carefully to join the Rue du Pêcheur, then the Rue du Faubourg. Turn right onto this road, then turn left onto Chemin de Gaudissart. Walk uphill to reach Chemin du Château; cross this to take the path towards the Notre-Dame des Anges Chapel, marked with white and yellow signs. You will reach a junction of paths.
(1) Turn left and you’ll soon reach the Notre-Dame des Anges Chapel. Turn right and cross the road. Continue straight ahead to reach the medieval castle.
(2) Head off to the left, continuing to follow the white and yellow markings. Cross the Ravin de Rignas stream, then continue uphill to reach a track.
(3) Turn left onto this track to reach the Ravin de Malaterre. Continue uphill and then, at the Malatere signpost, join theGR®®42.
(4) Turn left onto the GR®®42 and follow the white and red markings along the track, which becomes a tarmac road. Carry on until you reach another junction of tracks.
(5) Leave theGR®® here and turn right, heading towards Merlet and Aubignas. The markings change back to white and yellow. About a hundred metres further on, you’ll come to another crossroads; continue straight ahead. Pass a large oak tree marked with white and yellow signposting, then turn right onto the gentle uphill path (a few steps made of wooden logs and stones) winding through the oaks, junipers and broom. You will then reach a junction in a clearing.
(6) Turn right up the steep path towards the hunting lookout to reach the Pic de Chenavari.
(7) Return in the opposite direction to the previous crossroads.
(6) Head right downhill towards the power lines, follow the grassy track to the right and, at a left-hand bend, take a small path to join the stony track and the Ferme de Chenevari.
(8) Continue along this path to reach the junction with the Chemin de Sauzet.
(9) Turn right onto the tarmac road, passing the signposts for Chaguet, Les Vigneaux and Hauricou, to reach the hamlet of Les Videaux.
(10) Turn right onto Chemin des Videaux. At house number 959, continue along the grassy path which descends towards Le Château. Join the tarmac road and turn right. At the Saint-Laurent signpost, turn left towards the château. Ignore the road on the right leading to the château car park; keep left onto the Sentier du Saut de l’Âne, marked in white and yellow, and return to the junction you passed on the way out.
(1) Follow the outward route in the opposite direction to return to the car park on the D11 (S/E).
