Greenway from Le Teil to Alba

The greenway was inaugurated in December 2025, for the section from Le Teil to the old Alba-la-Romaine railway station, at least supposedly. Bring a light ( headlamp or other) to go through three tunnels, one of which is 900 m long.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park behind the post office in Le Teil.

(S) Take Chemin Germaine Montagnon, following the cycle path markings on the ground, until you reach a climb on the left that takes you to the start of the Greenway.

(1) Follow this old railway line that used to connect Le Teil to Aubenas.

(2) Cross the bridge on Avenue Mattéoti and continue.

(3) After crossing Chemin de Malaure (Route de Mélas), there is a small car park on the left if you want to shorten the hike.

(4) Go through the first tunnel at Charonsac and continue.

(5) Go through the second tunnel at Pontet.

(6) At the exit, pass a small cabin on the left, then another. Continue on the Greenway and reach the entrance to the third tunnel, which is 900 m long.

(7) Enter the tunnel: lighting is essential.

(8) Exit the tunnel and pass under a small road bridge. After passing a small house on your left that looks like an old railway station, take the path on the right that goes uphill and leads to the car park opposite the disused factory (E).

Notes

Lighting for the tunnels (headlamp, torch, etc.) isessential.

You can either do the round trip, which makes the route more than 15 km, or if there are several of you, leave one vehicle in one of the two car parks so that you only have to do the outward journey.

Hiking boots are not necessary; a pair of trainers will suffice. This is a paved track.

There is no water along the route, so bring a water bottle.

Worth a visit

When you exit the second tunnel, you will pass under the bridge of the Teil bypass and there is a beautiful view of the rocks on the right. You will also cross a pretty bridge.
