Park at the Château de Rochemaure car park.
(S/E) Head north until you reach a fork in the road at a place called Saint-Laurent.
(1) Continue straight ahead, pass under a power line and arrive at a path at a place called Les Crouzets.
(2) Follow this very narrow path uphill and join a road (markedGR®42).
(3) Follow this road to the left for 100 metres, go around a stone house on the right and follow the path north to reach a road at a place called Périgout. Follow it to the left until you reach a fork.
(4) Leave the tarmac road and take a pretty dirt track on the right. Descend on the left between the box trees and holm oaks to the Merlet ravine. At the bottom of the valley, cross the Liaud stream and follow the path uphill.
(5) After passing under a high-voltage power line, turn right onto a wide path lined with box trees and junipers. At Volle, you will see beautiful limestone strata on your left. The path climbs for a long time between oak and box trees.
(6) At the fork, take the path that climbs to the left. After passing a gate, you will have a beautiful view of the Lavezon valley, the Andance mountain and the Berguise mountain of Saint-Martin-sur-Lavezon.
During the climb, stay on the main path, now lined with oak trees, box trees and scorpion broom. You will see Pic Chenavari. Continuing along this path, you will find a succession of basalt columns.
(7) Reach the tarmac road by crossing a lunar-like landscape: you are on a basalt lava flow that has been eroded. You will arrive at a tarmac road before the hamlet of Les Freydières.
(8) Leave the hamlet on your right and take the tarmac road that descends to the left and passes through the hamlet of Le Fay. You will have a beautiful view of Carcot Mountain. Continue along this road, which passes under power lines, and return to the fork in the road from the outward journey.
(4) Take the same route back to return to the starting point (S/E).
