The route of this hike follows the Percorso Occitano trail for the most part. On maps, particularly OpenStreetMap, it is named Percoso(i) Occitano(i) and is often abbreviated to P.O. or PO.
Route markings: signposts and markings on the ground largely use the names given above.
For ease of reference, the abbreviation P.O. is used when the route follows the Percorso Occitano.
(S) Return to the Church of San Stefano and follow the road northwards for a few metres.
(1) Take the path on the left, heading west, signposted CUE-Tappa 01, which is also the P.O. Walk to a junction.
(2) Leave the CUE-Tappa 01 path on your right and continue along the balcony path, which then climbs to reach a track junction.
(3) Return to the P.O. on the left and reach the Chioligiera Barn.
(4) Start the fairly steep climb towards the pass known as Punta Culour, following the P.O.
(5) Staying on the P.O., descend to a farmhouse.
(6) Join the track, cut across the hairpin bends until the last one and reach a building.
(7) After the last hairpin bend, follow the track (P.O.) to a junction.
(8) Turn left (signposted ‘Acceglio direct’). Follow a pleasant path through the woodland until you reach a junction with a track.
(9) Leave the track on your right and continue along the path through the woods until you reach a junction with the P.O.
(10) Return to the P.O. and head towards the centre of the village of Acceglio.
(11) Cross the Maira, follow the right bank of the stream, then turn left towards the second bridge over the Maira.
(12) Before the bridge, follow the road to the right towards Frere. Pass in front of the Albergo Le Marmotte and cross the hamlet of Frere. On leaving, follow the track running alongside the Torrente Unerzio until you reach the junction with a road at the confluence with the Rio Pelello.
(13) Continue south on the road and pass through the hamlet of Ghjiet (Trattoria La Barmo). On leaving the hamlet, leave the road and take a track to reach Chialvetta (E).
