Park in the Clapière car park, located on the left on the French side, about 700m before the Col de Larche.
(S/E) Walk up the track northwards for a few metres, then turn right onto theGRP® "Frontière Fortifiée" marked in red and yellow, following the Orronaye torrent on the right bank. The path climbs gradually, passes a shepherd's hut and reaches a first small fork descending to the right, which you should ignore. Continue to the next fork where the path divides into two branches, both leading to Lac de l'Orrenaye.
(1) Take the right-hand branch along the stream, cross it a little further up before reaching the next junction with theGRP® "Tour du Chambeyron".
(2) Follow the path on the right, passing a first small shallow lake on the right, then reach Lac de l'Orrenaye: stay on the marked trail climbing above the lake, through the pastures.
(3) At the next fork, continue straight ahead towards Col de Roburent.
(4) Cross the pass near the border markers to enter Italian territory. The path descends towards the magnificent Lac de Roburent.
(5) At the next fork, do not descend to the right towards the lake but follow the clearly visible S10 trail to the left, marked by a cairn at the start. This trail climbs up the slope, then joins a fairly steep corridor and reaches a plateau (lots of barbed wire). On this flat area, there is a first sign for "Colle della Scaletta", which you should ignore.
The path continues in the same direction, passing below military barracks on the left to reach Colle della Scaletta at 2614m.
(6) At the pass, turn 90° to the right and follow the well-marked red and blue SCR trail (Roberto Cavallero trail), which climbs rapidly in very tight switchbacks through a tricky area of scree and rocks. Follow the markings carefully. You will reach a tunnel (an old military gallery). Go through this tunnel. At the exit, cross a small ravine and climb more easily between the rocks and retaining walls built by the military to the northern summit of Monte Scaletta.
(7) Continue south, still following the blue and red markings. The path descends below the bunker, passes close to the cable car wheel, and reaches a small pass between the northern and southern summits of Monte Scaletta. From there, the passage, although not particularly difficult, becomes very exposed. It is equipped with chains or handrails. Continue along this short section, between the gaps, following the blue and red markings. Gradually, the path levels out and follows a ridge line to reach a small pass.
(8) Leave the path descending to the left towards Val Maira. Stay on the well-marked blue and red trail, which leads back to the Roburent Lakes. Look for a small, clearly visible path below, between the two lowest lakes, which leads to theGRP® "Frontière Fortifiée" trail climbing from Argentera to the Col de Roburent.
(9) Cross an area of scree, which you should leave as soon as possible (no cairns or markings, but the route is obvious), descending directly to the right towards the small path between the two lakes. Walk along the upper lake and join the GRP®.
(10) At the intersection with theGRP®, climb right up the marked path towards Col de Roburent. The path runs alongside the lake, then reaches Col de Roburent and joins the ascent route.
(4) Describe the instructions from the crossing point here.
(5) Find and follow the ascent route.
(2) Leave the ascent route and continue straight ahead. Reach the next GRP® junction.
(11) Take the left fork (nice view). Continue to the first crossroads passed on the way up.
(1). Descend via the ascent route to the Clapière car park (S/E).
