Description of the walk

Start: D24 Route du Rosemont, 90200 Vescemont, at the Château du Rosemont car park.
The route is marked with a Red Ring.

(S/E) From the car park, cross the River Rosemontoise and turn left onto a wide forest road, which you follow to the Col des Sept Chemins.
Enjoy the lovely views of the farms in the valley as you walk.

(1) Turn left and continue straight ahead on the path marked with a Red Ring and a Blue Ring. The route joins the GRE5 (Adriatic-Atlantic).
At the pass there is a very nice shelter.
Continue, ignoring three paths on the right.

(2) At the crossroads, the path marked with a Blue Ring heads off to the right towards the Col du Chat. Do not take this, but head left onto the forest road.
A few metres further on, cross a path and continue straight ahead.

(3) Just after the source of the Goutte Clérisse, leave the forest road and head right. Pass two paths on the left and one on the right.
(4) Follow the markings to turn right twice in succession, then immediately left. Cross the Petite Goutte de la Milandre and then the Goutte du Four.

(5) At the next junction, continue straight ahead. (Do not go up to the right)

(6) At this junction, leave the forest road and turn right. Pass a path on the right and arrive at the Col du Chantoiseau.

(7) Continue along the first path on the left. After a hairpin bend to the left, take the forest road that descends.
You will reach another junction just before the Goutte du Chantoiseau.

(8) Turn right and continue to the Goutte Jean Remiche.

(9) Cross it and stay on the track, ignoring the path on the right. Continue for a few hundred metres to reach a junction with a footpath.

(10) Look out for the signposting to take this path on the left. Walk along below the forest road to reach the Château du Rosemont car park without any trouble (S/E).

Worth a visit

Source:
Vescemont
Its inhabitants are known as the Vescemontois or the Rosemontois
During the Roman Empire, the Rosemontoise valley was the only crossing point between Lorraine and the Belfort Gap. Numerous coins of Trajan (Roman emperor from 98 to 117) have been discovered in Vescemont, and local tradition places a Roman camp on the site of Giromagny Fort.
One can still see some remains of Rosemont Castle, which stood on a rock on the edge of the commune of Riervescemont. Rosemont Castle was built around 1050. For a long time, the castle was the most prestigious stronghold in the region.
The circumstances surrounding the castle’s abandonment are not known with certainty. Two theories prevail:
- Rosemont Castle lost its strategic importance around 1469 and was abandoned,
- the castle was besieged and destroyed by the Swedes in 1632 during the Thirty Years’ War.
Only a few ruins remain.

Stone known as the "Inscribed Stone"
A listed natural site for its artistic value.
It is situated about 1 km from the Col de Chantoiseau. It is now covered in moss and the engravings are no longer visible.
It may have been carved by prehistoric peoples from Asia who came to the Vosges. It appears to have been venerated in the Middle Ages and covered with Christian symbols, which sit alongside the oldest hieroglyphs.

A beautiful hike on gentle slopes, made easier by wide forest paths, which are very pleasant when it's a little warm.
Sometimes the vegetation obscures the signs, but a quick glance is enough to get you back on track. Thank you to Balisage 90 for their ever-appreciated work!

A very natural hike (forests, foxgloves, springs, etc.) and a shaded route that is ideal when it's hot!

A lovely walk, with a reasonable elevation gain and, above all, plenty of shade on hot, sunny days. Two shelters along the route – perfect!

Shady walk with mainly forest paths and too few trails. At the start, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Vescemont valley. Very good signage. Perhaps best suited to snowshoes?

A lovely walk near my home, close to MT JEAN and CHANTOISEAU. In my opinion, the elevation gain is less than indicated. This is a forest hike best done in summer or with snowshoes.

A very beautiful and enjoyable hike.
The description is spot on, and what's more, there are two shelters where you can
snack stops.

Two very decent shelters along the route, suitable for picnics.

Hello
This hike is indeed a beautiful route.
As for the elevation gain, it's true that there are often differences between different software programmes and GPS devices or mobile phones. Visorando calculates an elevation gain of 472 m. I just calculated it with another app, which found it to be just over 500 m. Like you, I'm sorry to see these differences. Experience has taught me that elevation measurements are sometimes approximate and depend on the GPS. This is even more true when using a mobile phone.
Thank you again for your comment, and I wish you many enjoyable hikes with Visorando.

Beautiful route, but steeper than advertised. The description gives an elevation gain of 472 m, whereas several different GPS devices give an elevation gain of > 800 m. (The official sign at the start of the route indicates 830 m).
The Chantoiseau forest shelter is welcoming and clean.

Very shady route... interesting in hot weather...
We made a mistake... climbed a little higher... took a small upper path to climb to the "Roche du Serpent" (Snake Rock), which adds to the appeal of the hike.
