Description of the walk

From the N176, take the exit for Jugon-les-Lacs. Once in the village, head towards the cemetery and park in the car park next to it.

Yellow and red + yellow markings along the entire route.

(S/E) From the car park, take the road north of the cemetery, then turn left heading due north onto Rue Saint-Étienne towards Val Joli, crossing La Rosette.

(1) At Val Joli, turn left onto Rue du Bout de la Ville, go under the N176, continue straight on and arrive at the sewage treatment plant.

(2) Just past the sewage treatment plant, turn left onto a path leading to the Ruisseau de l’Arguenon. Follow this stream.

(3) Pass a road bridge and reach the northern end of the lake. Once at the lake, follow its eastern shore, keeping close to the water at all times.

(4) At Gautrel, do not take the bridge; continue straight on along the eastern shore, following the lake.

(5) Continue along the eastern shore to pass behind the car park at Impasse du Lac.

(6) Cross two small streams and take the path on the left to stay close to the lake until you reach the Pont de Pleven-Plorec.

(7) At the bridge, continue straight on along the eastern shore to reach the Ville Hatte dam, which created this lake.

(8) At the dam, turn back to return to the Pleven-Plorec Bridge.

(7) Cross the bridge and, at the end, follow the path to the left to walk along the western shore of the lake.

(9) Cross a stream and continue along the path, still following the lake.

(10) Walk through the hamlet of La Berthière, the only section where you move slightly away from the lake. Then turn right to rejoin the western shore of the lake.

(11) Cross another stream and turn left to continue along the lake.

(12) When you reach Tournemine, do not take the bridge; instead, continue straight on along the lake until you reach the next bridge at Lorgeril.

(13) In Lorgeril, do not take the bridge; continue straight on along the lake towards the south until you reach the viaduct next to the sewage treatment plant, which you passed on the way out.

(14) Turn left onto a footbridge just before the viaduct to rejoin the original path. Take it to the right in the opposite direction to the outward journey, passing under the viaduct via Rue du Bout de la Ville until you reach the junction you passed on the outward journey.

(1) Turn right and follow the route in the opposite direction to the outward journey to reach the car park (S/E).

A lovely walk around this lake. It takes a good 10 hours to complete the entire route, which is dotted with all sorts of challenges, including fallen trees blocking the path, not to mention several very muddy sections. I recommend using walking poles as some areas are very slippery and steep, particularly certain wooden steps. The scenery is magnificent

A superb hike with a variety of landscapes (riverbanks, countryside, woodland, etc.) – very interesting, with plenty of views of the lake.
A challenging route, with very little walking on roads but numerous obstacles along the way (fallen trees), which slows down the pace of the walk.
