Annapurna Circuit

There’s no need for a catchy phrase, as suggested on the website. The title ‘Annapurna Circuit’ speaks for itself. This trek, undertaken in 2009, is described some six years later. This year’s dramatic events have had little impact on this region, and the current route is undoubtedly similar to the one described. This account will be a little different from what I usually present; it is a compilation of the notes I took during the trek. Afterwards, you’ll set some euros aside and book this trip.

Notes

You won’t find any directions or information on signposting in the descriptions of the stages – this isn’t necessary. In fact, there is only one main track, which is effectively a pedestrian ‘motorway’. You’ll come across people every day, and as most of you will be travelling with cirdars, Sherpas and porters, you won’t have any trouble knowing which way to go.

Worth a visit

This remarkable and exotic trek does not require a high level of fitness. However, you do need to be in good shape and accustomed to this sort of activity, which involves around fifteen days of continuous effort. It is best to have already tried a similar route lasting a good week (Tour du Mont Blanc,GR®20, Tour du Queyras) before embarking on this adventure. It is suitable for anyone in good health, regardless of age (our oldest participant was 73), and the average age of the other participants was 62. We had no health issues whatsoever, just a few minor niggles such as a persistent cough, and we all managed to avoid altitude sickness. It must be said that we took our time and, above all, the pace set by our Sherpa was that of a leisurely mountaineer.
In the end, we’ve been left with lasting memories which, every time we meet up, allow us to recall all those wonderful moments we spent together.

Returning now to the topic of what to see during the trek:
Kathmandu and its monuments, which, sadly, must have suffered from last year’s earthquake,
Pokhara and its magnificent lake, where we spent two wonderfully relaxing days.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

A brilliant trek in October 2011 with a group of six family and friends, accompanied by the Base Camp agency in Kathmandu – and in glorious sunshine!! A challenging trek, especially from 4,800 metres onwards, but a great experience.
Hiking amidst fantastic, breathtaking scenery and meeting happy locals with warm, friendly smiles.
Highly recommended for keen walkers in excellent health.

Hello,
I’ve read about your journey – one step at a time, one breath at a time!!
I travelled through the Mustang region in April 2015, at the time of the earthquake; that journey took on a special significance.
Beyond the emotions, the sublime, unforgettable images
I’m looking forward to my next visit to this country

The best months for this wonderful adventure are April (for the rondodindrons) and October; a 10kg rucksack, no more, otherwise you’ll need sherpas. If it’s very busy, you can adjust your overnight stops to feel closer to the Himalayan people;
don’t miss the ‘Jimmy Hendrix Hotel’ in Jomsom and the hot springs at Tatopani (with a return trip along the Kaligandaki – not for the faint-hearted). Enjoy the trek!
