Description of the walk

(S) From the Yak Kharka lodge, head north, making a quick and easy ascent to the village of lodges at Letdar.

(1) Continue north along the left bank of the Jharsang Khola. Cross it via a new footbridge.

(2) Walk past the lodges at Thorung Base Camp and, following the right bank of the river, finish the day at Thorung Phedi (E).

Notes

An even shorter stage than the day before, allowing for a good rest ahead of tomorrow, as tomorrow will be another day – the longest day of the trek. The morning is spent breathing the air at an altitude of 4,500 metres; it’s thin but no more expensive than elsewhere. A visit to the landing zone where the helicopter arrives, a training session at the hyperbaric chamber just in case, a quick meal in the evening and straight to bed, as tomorrow we’re up at… 2.00 am.

Worth a visit

Here, you have to look up towards the west; that’s where we’ll set off the next day, and the winding tracks glimpsed in the distance promise a gruelling climb…
