Jagat – Dharapani

Set off from the lodge (S) on a very steep climb which ends at the large village of Chame and the small hydroelectric power station just before it.

(1) Head downhill to cross the river, then climb back up the opposite side. You’ll reach Tal Phedi.

(2) Walk alongside a small dam on the river, which has created a tiny lake. Reach its upstream end.

(3) Begin a long but easy climb to reach Dharapani (E).

A highlight today: the micro-power stations at Chame and Dharapani. It must be said that, with its many rivers and waterfalls, Nepal has more than enough to meet its own electricity needs. A power line is currently under construction, but numerous rockfalls are damaging the pylons. The cables, however, remain unaffected for the simple reason that there aren’t any. But this is surely only a temporary situation. I would like to thank, in advance, any of our many readers who have since completed this route for letting me know of any changes regarding this and other aspects as well.

Dharapani is a village with a particularly good selection of lodges and, consequently, plenty of trekkers. This is to be expected, as it is the crossroads of two famous treks: Annapurna to the left and Manaslu to the right. What beautiful names.
