This is a somewhat challenging hike with two distinct sections:
- steep sections above Torcieu (requiring the use of your hands at times),
- long stretches with a series of ascents and descents without excessive gradients.
Most of the route is through woodland (with limited views).
Walking poles are recommended, especially in wet conditions.

The view from Mont Luisandre is sweeping, and this circular route allows you to visit two of the castles on the so-called “Four Castles” route.
