Park just before the small village of Montferrand, between the bridge crossing the Albarine and the SNCF level crossing (park on the left).
(S/E) Head towards the village of Montferand, crossing the railway line. At the wash house, turn right onto Rue du Quartier d'en Bas.
After leaving the village, the track runs alongside the railway line on the right-hand side, through flat countryside. You will come to a pumping station and, shortly afterwards, a crossroads.
(1) Continue straight ahead along the railway line. After a bend towards a railway bridge, you will come to another fork.
(2) Take the left path for 100 metres. Follow the yellow markings, then take another path on the right for 400 metres. You will arrive at another fork.
(3) Turn left and follow the yellow markings along a path that climbs steadily but not excessively. After a short while, in a shaded area, you will arrive at a more rugged environment.
Please note: Some sections involve short ladders that are very well secured with cables.
in wet weather, walking poles are recommended in this area.
(4) The Crochet Caves are visible and accessible on the left via a short ledge.
Caution: This route is off-trail and unsecured.
Continue climbing the path with a few passages via ladders. The terrain becomes less rugged. Continue on a path overlooking a stream (dry when I passed through), in a wooded environment.
After a bend in the path, at the fork, go right (the left path leads to private property). You will come to another clearly marked fork. Go left towards the houses of the pretty hamlet of Dorvan.
(5) Take the small road on the right for 500 metres. After a bend, you will come to a fork.
(6) Take the path on the right towards the bottom of the valley. The path then climbs gently, following the small stream and crossing several fords (caution: these may not be easy to cross in wet weather and the stream may merge with the path). After thethird ford, you will come to another fork (near Le Muret).
(7) Take the left-hand path, crossing thefourth ford. A little further up, you will come to a pretty wash house (Fontaine de Flon) after crossing another ford. Continue along the path towards Cleyzieu. In the village, take thefirst street on the left (called Sur le Roy) then the one on the right where you will see a very pretty church (Église Saint-Martin).
(8) Continue on the right, passing in front of an old communal oven. Continue straight ahead (Montée du Village) for more than 700 metres, passing beautiful old houses.
At the village exit (altitude 631 m), take the street on the left (called En Puisieux). The small road leads to a four-way intersection.
(9) Take the left-hand path (at the Croix de Puisieux) which climbs through meadows. The path then joins the forest, then a little higher up, an elongated meadow (the Creux du Soir).
(10) Take the left-hand path at the fork. Walk along the meadow, reach another fork a little further on and take the left-hand path into the woods. With little incline, you will pass Crêt Saint Martin (the symbolic highest point of the hike, but without a clear view) and then descend through landscapes alternating between wooded areas and meadows. Leave the adjacent paths. Further on, you will arrive at the Creux de Lent crossroads.
(11) Cross the road and turn left. 100 metres further on, cross another road. Continue almost straight ahead. You will soon reach another path: turn right. The path continues through fields on a plateau. Approach the Rochers de la Falconnière.
(12) A small visible path leads to the Falconnière balcony a few metres away (this is the only open area in the sector offering a view of the valley).
Retrace your steps and continue along the path, which leads down to a pretty village.
(13) Go straight through the village of Mont de Lange (with its pretty communal oven).
After passing the main street, continue straight ahead and turn left onto the small road below that descends to the bottom of the valley and then climbs back up through wooded surroundings.
About 200 m before the forest exit, look for the start of a path on the right.
(14) Take this yellow-marked trail on the right. It is even and easy to walk on.
You will come to a stream; follow it on your right. Turn right to reach the Grotte du Pissoir (visible a little higher up), where you will see a pretty waterfall (flow varies depending on the season) not far away.
(15) Retrace your steps a little and continue along the path to rejoin the path you took on the way to Monferrand.
(1) Turn right to return to the starting point (S/E).
