Tence - Queyrières

Fourteenth stage of the Way of St James. This fairly short stage (due to the gloomy, snowy weather) feels like a long, continuous climb until reaching the hamlet of Raffy, in the forests of Meygal, at an altitude of over 1,290 m, which is the highest point of this route. A short stop in Saint-Jeures, a small village with a beautiful 12th-century Romanesque church, situated a short distance from the Pic du Lizieux (1,388 m), clearly visible from a long way off before reaching the village.

Description of the walk

(S) From the stadium, continue along the right bank of the river to reach the D103. Turn left, walk carefully along the verge of the main road, cross the roundabout and, at the next junction, keep left to join the Chemin de Clotre, which runs parallel to the D103.

(1) Continue to the last house, where the tarmac road ends.

(2) At the Y-junction, take the right-hand track leading towards a pine forest. Where the track runs alongside the D103, turn left at a right angle to the main road.

(3) Turn left again. Continue to the cross.

(4) 110 m after the cross, turn left, cross the hamlet of Pouzol and continue to the T-junction.

(5) Turn right onto theGR®65, then left to reach the hamlet of Les Moulins.

(6) Cross the D18 and continue following the signposts until you reach the cemetery at Saint-Jeures.

(7) Turn right, pass to the right of the church and turn left just past it, onto Montée de l’Église. Walk down to the roundabout.

(8) Head towards Auroles on the Route du Lizieux. At the Croix de Pierre crossroads, turn right.

(9) Take the first path on the right, which runs between the house and a hedge of thuja trees. Follow this path for 1.3 km until you reach a place called La Rochette.

(10) Turn left at the hairpin bend. Cross the D18 and continue until you return to the D18.

(11) Continue along this main road for about 500 m.

(12) At a concrete block building, take the path heading north-west to reach the village of Aroles. Turn left onto the D18.

(13) Turn left again onto the Chemin de Compostelle to join the path running alongside the last stone house. Begin a gradual 2 km climb up to the D42.

(14) Cross the D42, then the hamlet of Piallevialles, and continue to the D18.

(15) Follow the D18 along the path running parallel to it.

(16) Turn right off the D18 and continue up the increasingly steep climb to reach the highest point at the hamlet of Raffy.

(17) Start the descent on the D18, then, 400 m further on, take the path that descends to the left of the road. At the entrance to the hamlet of Queyrières, you can camp at the picnic area (E).
