To start, go to Brégier-Cordon (main town) away from the CD road that follows the Rhône canal, turn to pass in front of the church and continue for 100 metres to park at the tennis court and village hall car park.
(S/E) Head towards the mountain (along the wash house) to take a good path that climbs up to the left towards the north.
Pass a water tank and continue climbing up the hillside. Halfway up the slope, leave this path, which levels out, and turn right onto a steeper path. This path takes you over a few limestone outcrops and reaches a first viewpoint over the Rhône valley before reaching a plateau and a carriage road coming from the right (GR® de Pays Tour du Pays de Lhuis et d'Izieu).
(1) Take this level path on the left for 500 m, turn left to stay close to the edge of the plateau and reach a clearing with a viewpoint equipped with a bench.
Continue along this path, which descends steeply, then, at the bottom of the descent, turn right and, after a short climb, continue downhill towards the Gland valley. Join a forest track coming from the left and follow it for a few metres on flat ground until you reach the start of a path at a place called La Frache.
(2) Don't miss the start of the path on the left, which takes you directly down to the Gland via a fairly steep slope that can be wet and slippery. This will take you to the edge of the stream.
Follow the left bank of the stream downstream along a pleasant, easy path. When it can no longer follow the water, the path climbs a little to the left, passing in front of the porch of the Grotte de Glandieu, then returns above the Gland and the structures surrounding it.
Stay up high until you are above the village before descending a steep slope that leads to the road between the houses.
(3) Go right to admire the waterfall 150 m away and return to the road heading south until you reach Chemin des Grenouilles, then take it on the right towards the west. Continue straight ahead along Chemin de la Morte and 100 m before reaching the D19 road, the marsh trail begins.
(4) Take this path on the left, which winds through the wooded marsh, passing over a wooden footbridge to come out on Chemin du Grand Clos near the D19.
Turn left onto this path until you reach the edge of the lake, which has been created in a former gravel pit. Turn left onto Route du Plan d'Eau and continue east for 100 metres.
(5) Opposite the reception area, turn right onto a path and then immediately left onto a trail heading south.
This path winds through the wooded marsh, crosses a footbridge and leads to Chemin du Lagunage at a place called Le Gaz. Follow this path on the right as it leaves the wooded area and passes through fields, where it turns sharply left.
When you are 100 metres from the D19 again, turn left and then right to climb a slope that takes you out of the wet plain and onto an alluvial agricultural terrace.
(6) Turn left towards the east and pass large closed warehouses. The path becomes Route du Vieux Four, which leads back to the main town. Cross Rue de la Mairie (take care) and pass in front of the church, then turn right onto Chemin de Lélinaz to reach the car park where you started. (S/E).
Some paths are not maintained, see notices.
The highlights are obviously the beautiful Gland River at the end of the descent and the magnificent Glandieu waterfall. I couldn't return via my marshes, but the signposting for this hike is very good and easy to follow.
