From the Èvre to the Loire via Saint-Florent-le-Vieil
The River Èvre, which crosses the Pays des Mauges diagonally, joins the Loire at Notre-Dame du Marillais (Saint-Florent-le-Vieil), the starting point of the walk. The walk follows the Èvre at the start and joins the Loire in its final section, following part ofthe GR®3.

An eight-kilometre walk through the Anjou countryside starting from Saint-Quentin-en-Mauges to discover the historical heritage of the commune.
Montjean-sur-Loire - Beaulieu-sur-Layon
Starting from Montjean-sur-Loire, the second stage first follows the river upstream, passing by the Île de Chalonnes. In this town, you cross to the south bank to climb the Corniche Angevine, which you follow for a few kilometres before descending into the Layon valley. Following the greenway that runs alongside the river, you will reach the Pont Barré, the site of a battle in the Vendée and the end of this stage.
Limestone and plant remains at Montjean-sur-Loire
The walk begins in the heart of the lime-burning hamlet of Châteaupanne, just a few steps from the priory and its chapel. First, let yourself be guided by the soothing murmur of the Ruisseau des Moulins, before heading slightly uphill. As you climb the hill, a unique natural spectacle unfolds before you: the remains of the world’s oldest wood, the dance of wild orchids and, come fine weather, the vibrant bloom of rock roses.
Quarry and lime kilns at Châteaupanne
In Montjean-sur-Loire, the path that winds through the Châteaupanne Sensitive Natural Area takes you back in time. The path goes deep into the woods, runs along the banks of the Loire or follows old stone walls. Further on, you climb a coral reef, now a limestone quarry, where the sea was 400 million years ago. Further on, a strange fortress takes you back to the era of the lime burners.

Le Petit Anjou in Le Pin-en-Mauges
Take a stroll through the countryside of the Mauges region along this route. You’ll pass through vast agricultural areas and get a close-up view of wind turbines. You’ll also have the chance to wander through open fields, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in this rural landscape. Wooded areas with paths lined by hedgerows and trees will offer you a cool respite and immerse you in a more intimate atmosphere.
La Boire Torse and the banks of the Loire at Anetz
This pleasant route initially follows an old branch of the Loire known as the Boire Torse. It then crosses the Grande Prée de Varades before running alongside the Loire for several kilometres. It presents no difficulty as it is completely flat.
If necessary, you can replace the path along the banks of the Loire with the Loire à Vélo route, which is well signposted.

This circular route takes you from the Salle housing estate, built in the 1970s, to the brand new Croix Clet housing estate. Starting from the beautiful shaded areas of the Étang de la Salle and the banks of the Ruisseau de la Douinière, you will cross the pleasant gardens of the Guinguette before walking along the new paths, whose names highlight remarkable women from the commune.
Around the Pot at Le Fuilet
During this hike, walkers will have the opportunity to discover a rich heritage, bearing witness to local history and traditions. Along the way, several crosses and calvaries will reveal themselves, offering beautiful contemplative stops and a glimpse into the spiritual and cultural dimension of the region. The path also leads past the Maison du Potier, a true place of memory and transmission. This stage allows you to appreciate the ancestral art of working with clay and immerse yourself in the creative world of the potters who have made Le Fuilet famous. For a well-deserved break in nature, the route leads to the Barbotine Pond. This green setting is the ideal place to share a family picnic or simply relax by the water.

Discover the peaceful countryside of the Mauges along this rural trail. You can enjoy the delightful setting of the rolling Mauges countryside as you pass through shady wooded areas. You’ll traverse a variety of landscapes, from country lanes with unobstructed views of the fields to sunken paths lined with oak trees. Near the car park, you’ll find the remains of an old mill, now a memorial to Jean-Nicolas Stofflet, a general in the War in the Vendée.

Combine the pleasure of walking with the discovery of one of the most captivating episodes in local history. This route invites you on a real journey back in time. It was against this backdrop that the final act of Jean-Nicolas Stofflet’s life unfolded. A former gamekeeper for Count Colbert de Maulévrier, he became one of the leading figures of the Vendée uprising before being ambushed and arrested at daybreak, wounded by Republican bayonets. Amidst the typical landscapes of the Mauges and significant historical sites, this route takes you to the scene of a historic night that changed the region’s history forever.
