Saint-Estèphe walks
From Saint-Estèphe to Piégut
This hike will give you an insight into the life of the monks of the Order of Grandmont, who were only allowed to eat fish from the large pond at Saint-Estèphe. You will pass their priory, then the Menhir de Fixard and the Tour de Piégut with its history. You can also take an old Roman road and explore the discoveries of centuries past in the small villages you pass through.
The Saut du Chalard
A circular alternative to the walk to Saut du Chalard takes you along the rushing Dronne river on a slightly difficult path at the bottom of a wooded valley that is always shaded.
A short circular loop along the Dronne upstream of the Trou de Philippou
This circular loop starting from Saint-Saud-Lacoussière heads down along the Dronne, following it for around 2 km. Much of the path is shaded. You can make a short detour to cool off at the Grand Étang at the end of the route. You can also start from the Grand Étang and join the loop via the GR®361.
The Renaudie Circular
A lovely walk through the hills bordering the Dronne Valley, discovering charming hamlets and the ruins of La Renaudie Castle.
Loop between Tardoire and the forests, starting from Vouthon
Vouthon is home to a 12th-century Templar church. The Tardoire river flows near this church and you will cross it several times. In places, you will walk along the platform of an old railway line. This walk will bring you closer to history and nature.
Around Cussac
This route incorporates several PDIPR (Departmental Plan for Walking and Hiking Routes) trails, allowing you to explore the Forest of Boubon and the surroundings of Cussac.
The Good Fountains of Cussac.
This route will take you to the heart of Limousin villages, past oratories, good fountains and prayer trees, witnesses to ancestral spiritual activity. You are in the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park.
Quiz walk: “Through our stories in Saint-Sornin”
This route can be combined with a quiz walk, offering a fun way to discover the town’s iconic sites and learn about its history and heritage. Look for the ‘Au fil de nos histoires’ poster in the sports hall car park and scan the QR code to start the game (free, no registration required, and no app to download).
Tour of Lake Mas Chaban starting from Massignac
This hike will take you around Lake Mas Chaban and offer beautiful views of Lake Chaban and a passage through the small village of Lésignac-Durand, where there is a church worth seeing.
The difficulty lies mainly in the length of the walk. In very wet weather, the path can be very muddy or even impassable.
The route can also be done in the opposite direction. Please note that the view is not clear between Valette and the starting/finishing point.
Circular of the Queue d'Âne
A lovely walk through the rolling countryside of the Périgord Vert, well marked between meadows and woods.
The route is proposed and maintained by the local association "Amis Chemin".
Circular Combes starting from Saint-Jean-de-Côle
Explore the hills overlooking the Côle, from hamlet to hamlet, from one valley to another, amidst forests and meadows.
Saint-Jean-de-Côle Circular Forest Loop
A pleasant walk, mainly through woodland, first along the flat route of an old railway line, then along the ridge of the hills overlooking Saint-Jean-de-Côle to the west, ending with a stroll through traditional hamlets before the descent to the village.
Circular between Saint-Jean-de-Côle and Saint-Romain
A walk in the countryside completes your visit to Saint-Jean-de-Côle, one of the most beautiful villages in France, first along the hillside, on the shaded route of the old railway line, and then on the crest of the hills overlooking the Côle valley.
Le Clos du Boeuf in Laudonnie
You will walk along sunken paths, discover numerous viewpoints and pass small ponds teeming with wildlife. Herons, ducks, moorhens and teals have made their home in this peaceful spot. Heading back towards Laudonnie, after the last pond, on your left, you’ll pass the “Clos du Boeuf”, a small meadow where the farmer used to lead his animal – or, at best, his pair of oxen – for a well-deserved rest after long hours of walking.
Hike in the footsteps of the Yvracoise (intermediate route)
The municipality of Yvrac and Malleyrand organises a mountain bike and walking event every Easter Monday. Registration is from 8.00 am to 10.00 am. Three routes are available: 7.5, 10 and 13 km; I recommend the medium route (10 km).
