Hike in the footsteps of the Yvracoise (intermediate route)

The municipality of Yvrac and Malleyrand organises a mountain bike and walking event every Easter Monday. Registration is from 8.00 am to 10.00 am. Three routes are available: 7.5, 10 and 13 km; I recommend the medium route (10 km).

Description of the walk

Head to the village of Yvrac in Charente and take the RD62 northwards. The community centre is on the left as you leave the small village. Parking there is easy and free.

(S/E) Walk past the large grey building, then go between the football pitch and the refreshment bar. The dirt track is just behind the refreshment bar. Head north until you reach a crossroads.

(1) Turn left and continue straight on to the hamlet of Beaumont. At points 131 and 128, follow the dirt track straight ahead.

(2) Turn right onto the limestone track and join a tarmac road.

(3) Take it to the left until you reach the D13.

(4) First turn left then right to cross it carefully and continue towards the hamlet of Chez le Meunier.

(5) Turn right, leave the hamlet and continue straight on along the limestone track at the edge of the woods until you reach the 103-metre mark.

(6) Turn right, cross the D13 again carefully and continue along the dirt track until you reach a fork.

(7) Turn left then right and go round the hamlet of La Gagie on the right (tarmac road).

(8) Turn right, continue along the tarmac road to the 121-metre mark, where you should turn right onto the limestone track.

(9) At the 114-metre mark, turn right and take the dirt track. Continue straight on after carefully crossing the D392 until you reach the 132-metre mark, where you continue straight on. At the 139-metre mark, turn right twice and you will reach a fork.

(10) Take the dirt track on the left and return to the original junction

(1) Go straight on and you will reach the car park of the community centre (S/E).
