Loop between Tardoire and the forests, starting from Vouthon

Vouthon is home to a 12th-century Templar church. The Tardoire river flows near this church and you will cross it several times. In places, you will walk along the platform of an old railway line. This walk will bring you closer to history and nature.

Description of the walk

The walk starts at the car park of Vouthon Church.

(S/E) Turn left at the car park exit and immediately right into Rue Octave Callendreau. At the end of this street, continue right onto Chemin du Moulin and go around a water treatment plant on the right. The tarmac then gives way to a path.

(1) At the crossroads, turn right onto a limestone path built on the platform of an old railway line. Cross the metal bridge over the Tardoire river (not shown on IGN maps). At the next intersection (elevation 100), continue straight ahead. Pass under the power line again and you will immediately come to a crossroads.

(2) Keep left on the D415 and cross the Tardoire again.

(3) On the other side of the bridge, take a small road on the right, then turn left onto Chemin du Got. At the end, cross the D699 with caution and continue on the road opposite.

(4) You will come to a limestone track and follow it to the right. At the first crossroads, go straight ahead until the next crossroads.

(5) Then turn left. At the fork shortly after, keep right and go through a small wood. Take the first road on the right (elevation 130). Further on, leave a road on the right and you will come to a T-junction.

(6) Turn left. Ignore the first path on the right (elevation 119) and then a second one further on.

(7) At the next intersection, turn left. At the T-junction (elevation 129), turn right.

(8) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead.

(9) At the next intersection, turn left. Then ignore a road on the right (elevation 142). You will come to a small road in a place called Les Boussetoux. Follow it to the right for about 100 metres.

(10) At the three-way junction, turn left onto a small road. At the first intersection, follow the D108 to the left.

(11) At the next junction, turn right onto a dirt track. At the junction with a small road (elevation 121), follow the dirt track on the left which climbs slightly. This will take you to a small road (elevation 116) which you follow to the left.

(12) At the fork, take the road on the right, which climbs slightly. Ignore a road on the left, then a path on the right. Follow the cemetery and you will reach the D699.

(13) Cross this road carefully and continue straight ahead. Ignore two small streets on the right and you will soon reach the church and the car park where you started (S/E).
